Old navdata on new purchase?

After tranig search i couldnt find an answer.

So please dont kill me if this question has been alrdy answered

 

I bought the 777 about 2 weeks ago. And after playing a but around and trying some things. I recognised(only online a problem) that the navdata is out of date. So i am asking if i Need to purchase new datas or is there a possibility to get them from pmdg?

 

There are some other questions, but this is the important one, may the other will get solved with new navdata

Yes, the product contains an out of date starter set. I use updates from Navigraph for both my charts and navdata.

Now to fix the issue, I need a subscription to d/l the updated navdata, so that puts the TOTAL cost of the 777 at almost $120. I mean who is gonna just get one data set? PMDG should put on the product site for the 777, that it comes with an out dated navdata set. I have always been a strong supporter of their products, but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't see what the big deal is. Nav data is not PMDG's responsibility. The nav data included in their products corresponds to the date they were released. That means the 777 has 3 month old nav data. That's not that out of date. Nav data doesn't change drastically month to month anyway.

 

With everything that PMDG already stimulates, I can't blame them for not keeping our nav data up to date constantly. It would add cost to their production, and ultimately, to the user.

You can use the same data to update up to around 30 products including the free and excellent  Sim brief flight planner.

 

Actually how are you planning your T777 flights? I don't know of any flight planners that don't require navigraph data so you must already be paying for it unless your using FSX planner in that case your up date :-)

The navdata that comes with the 777 was produced by a company that is completely separate and independent from PMDG. They (PMDG) are not in the navdata business. They made a special one-time licensing deal with Navigraph to include the dataset that was current at the time of initial release.

 

If PMDG were to always offer the most current navdata with their products, they would have to completely recompile all their installers every 28 days, which would hardly be practical. And who is going to pay for that? Navigraph certainly isn't going to simply give the databases to PMDG for free - they would have to pay Navigraph for each and every copy which they re-sell, and the only way they could recoup that expense would be to pass it along to the customers by raising the base price of the aircraft package.

 

Besides, even if you DID buy the aircraft with the navdata current on your day of purchase, that data is going to be obsolete within 28 days (at the most), so the "current" aspect isn't going to last very long in any case.

 

If you always want to fly with the most current dataset, you're going to have to bite the bullet and pay either Aerosoft or Navigraph for a subscription. It's not PMDG's responsibility to make sure your databases are always current, since they have no legal right to "give away" a product owned and licensed by a different company.

The planner I use is web based, and free. At the very least, they should put a disclaimer on the page saying the data may not be up to date. Thats all I ask. And just where did I say anything about giving stuff away? Seems to me there are a lot of assumptions going on in here.

Always research before you buy. I have never heard of such disclaimers on any FS aircraft that uses an nav database.

Not only that, we'd have to update the tutorials for every product every time the data changed too. It would also allow people to effectively get free navdata (which again, is a commercial product produced and sold by two other companies who pay a lot of money for the source data and the parsing system that turns it into usable files for FSX addons every month so that we can all have it) for an entire year just by buying our extended download service and then downloading the installer again every month. Extremely impractical for us and not fair at all to Navigraph or Aerosoft to do that.

How long have you been around the FS scene? This is the situation since the year "Dot". What is unacceptable is your complaint about out of date data.

Since I use FSX's flight planner then covert them to PMDG.rte files I could careless about the date of the data as my sims data is from 2006.......

Just my 2 Cents, wouldn't it be practical if PMDG could make an agreement with Navigraph or Aerosoft for some discount? All would be happy, and Navigraph or Aerosoft would be manufacturer of choice

But anyway, my question was answered and i'm good with it

David its good you disagree, thats your right. Its also my right to voice my opinion on a product that I pay for. If PMDG, had an agreement with Navigraph to offer its customers a discounted price on updating the navdata imagine how many more customers PMDG would have. And as far as how long I've been around the "flight sim scene" try all the way back before FS was even released. I've been simming since the 5.25" floppy days. Remember you guys are the ones who said giving stuff away, not I. Where in any post did I say give the navdata away for free? B/c no where in the posts I have made does that appear.
