Running on Windows 7 64-bit, on a Quad-core Core2Extreme QX9770 with 8GB RAM, on a Gigabyte X48-DQ6 motherboard.  Video card is a BFG Geforce GTX280.  This particular crash just happens with no warning, with the only prior indication being that the ATC works a little slow (that I can recall from my last atc.dll crash, since that one crashed not long after I actually had an ATC interaction, this one I did not).

Was flying the PMDG 777 passenger at the time, not sure if the specific aircraft is directly tied to this crash, I've had atc.dll crashes before in other aircraft....

I seem to be running the gamut of crash errors, between this, stackhash, ntdll and "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered" issues...  I've attempted to follow the guide for the ones included in the guide, but the atc.dll one is not in there and the forum search won't let me search for "atc.dll" (it arbitrarily removes the dot and searches for "atcdll" instead)...

Last memtest86 I ran had zero errors, though was some time ago... Will run it again now.

Any ideas?  Any further information needed?

Thanks

I'm not sure if you are overclocking in any way as I can replicate the nvlddmkm.dll crash 100% of the time if I mess with my video card's Base Clock Offset or Memory Clock Offset. The ATC.dll is related to viewing multiple graphic displays so there is a relationship here. On the Internet I found there are minor issues where the file atc.dll, responsible for containing the viewing graphics display during game play, encounters errors in displaying multiple image streams, especially when it renders multiple overlays. So I'm thinking you might have multiple Windows open while running FSX. We did not include any information about the ATC.dll in the CTD guide as there is no "magic bullet" that fits all. However, it will probably be added in the next update. So will the nvlddmkm.dll CTD.

I had similar crashes a couple of years ago on a less powerful system. I ran memtest86 and the IntelBurnTest and my computer passed every time. No problems whatsoever with memory. But, every time I ran FSX, I would get these types of crashes. In the BIOS, I saw that my memory settings were set to Auto which meant my ASUS board would manage the memory settings for me. Wrong! I looked at CPU-Z and saw that my memory was not set up properly with the settings as shown under the SPD tab. I went into the BIOS and changed those settings to what was shown under the SPD tab and my crashes went away. Totally. I later found out that some ASUS boards had issues managing system memory properly. I now use the X.M.P. profile in the BIOS for any overclocking. So I think this is what is causing your crashes. If you do not have your overclock set to the X.M.P. profile, then you will have to manually make sure your memory is set to the settings as shown under the SPD tab in the CPU-Z.

Hope this helps.

I don't have anything overclocked, I run all stock speeds. But, I'll get my hands on CPU-Z and look into the memory timings.

I fly FSX fullscreen on a single monitor, and besides the background services in the systray, I only keep Activesky, FS Flightkeeper, Fraps and TrackIR running that I specifically launch for FSX. Rarely, I might keep Firefox open (particularly during the RTW race), but I know I did not have that open for these latest atc.dll or stackhash crashes. Skype would have been running too, but minimized to the background completely idle (does that still count as a rendered window?).

EDIT:  All the timings match up, except the frequency.  CPU-Z is reporting DRAM frequency as 666.0MHz, CMOS setup is reporting 1333MHz on automatic, I was sure I had bought 1600MHz memory modules, but now not so sure.  There is no possible multiplier to get 666MHz on the memory frequency, and no XMP option available.

That's the problem.  There should be a setting in your BIOS to adjust the memory timings.  I have 1600MHz memory modules and the frequency is set at 800 (that's with the X.M.P. profile).  Do you have an option in the BIOS for the AI Overclock Tuner to set an X.M.P. profile?  I know you can overclock your system so the option should be there.

I could not find X.M.P. anywhere, but I did manually set the memory speed multiplier to get the memory frequency from 1333MHz to 1600MHz, and now it shows up in CPU-Z at 800MHz.

Will have to check this out in FSX a bit later...

Your motherboard is quite old and I don't see where it is supported. You want to make sure your memory timings as shown in the CPU-Z under the 800MHz column equals those in the BIOS under Standard Timing Controls - http://archive.benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=80&Itemid=69&limit=1&limitstart=3.

Ok, so I manually set the timings (from 7-7-7-20 to 9-9-9-24) per CPU-Z.  Now, everything is just randomly freezing (even when just doing nothing but browsing the web), forcing me to hit the ol' reset button.  (EDIT:  Bluescreen too)

So, now I'm getting highly concerned that I'm going to have to either format and reinstall Win7, or spend a ton of money I don't have on computer parts or a whole new computer due to impending hardware failure...

Is this still salvageable, or will I have to go to more extreme measures (ie. reinstalling Windows or replacing hardware)?

The reason you get BlueScreen crashes is to protect your system from damage. The chances of damaging your system is minimal as your system will simply not run if not properly configured. Go back into your BIOS and set your system to the defaults or optimized defaults, and restart. This should fix the memory problem. Evidently your system is not going to allow you to use the full capacity of your system memory (1600 MHz) and will only allow it to operate at 1333 MHz. For me, I had to use the X.M.P. profile to get to the 1600 MHz setting. Unfortunately your computer system will not allow that.

Ah well...  Reset to the optimized defaults to get rid of the random crashes, and oddly enough, no FSX crashes since.  Apart from one OOM, that is (only OOM I've ever gotten in FSX), but that's a different category....

Thanks for the help! :)

That's what I figured... a wrong voltage setting or timing.
