Strange Monitor Resolution Behaviour

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 29" ultra wide monitor (2560x1080) works great on machine #1.

Same monitor on a second machine will only display at 1920x1080.  If 2560x1080 is selected the writing/lettering is totally illegible. The installed card on the second machine is a NVidia 480 with January's driver. More than adequate for general purpose.

Any suggestions as to a remedy would be warmly received.

Sometimes monitors need an INF file to be added to the Windows system to configure things. Did the monitor come with software or does the manufacturer's site list something like this for download?

Problem resolved...by chance rather than design.

Saw advert for DVI cables and they mentioned that they were able to carry 2560x1980 resolution images. Not something that I had thought of as I was getting an image. My cable was about ten years old though. So for the sake of spending £6/$5 I replaced it with a new 2m cable.

Job Done, all is well and the wallet is happy too.
