Back in the "old days" you might have four or more sims on your computer! I've got three now, and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

So other than nonsensical anecdotes, do you have anything else to add ?

In response to your suggestion that I am a liar of course not.

There are really just two kinds of people in this thread:  Those that are willing to use P3D in it's present state, and those that aren't.  Now that some of the hype has thankfully toned down a bit, and realism has set in, I think we've established that P3D is not a panacea in it's present state.  If somebody is dissapointed that LM didn't find more issues in it's beta, or do more work up front with 3pds to work out compatibility issues, then so be it.  It isn't a "wrong" opinion to have.  People have different standards and expectations.   Having high standards and some stern criticism to go along with it can be a very good thing, and ultimately that's what drives things towards the better.  People saying critical things about P3D are not the enemy

OK Gerry, you caught us. LM has stopped working on training aid for the next manned moon landing trained just to make a new Version of P3D that will not work for just you. It took years and they had meeting where they talked about you and how they like all the Simmers except you. Even the President of LM held a staff meeting and point blank said...."If you put out a sim that Gerry likes and it works on his computer then you can just look for a job else where". Isn't it funny that LM sent us all a e-mail with updates and the only one in the entire world who did not get notified was you.

I honestly do not know where you come up with some of this stuff sometimes, I really don't.

There is criticism and there is petulant whining.

It is the latter that becomes tedious. Especially when, 9 times out of 10, it's only an issue if looked at from the perspective of the casual flight simmer. No one is saying issues should not be raised when encountered, but that is a long way from whining incessantly about how FSX works better for you while counting leaves in Norway than P3D.

The harsh reality is, that the ideal replacement for FSX that some seem to be waiting for isn't coming. That P3D was ever perceived as such is an error. It is an interesting new development, that might just be able to fill that role to the satisfaction of many of us, if that is, we can get out of our own way and try to see the bigger picture.

It is very telling when you look at what most of the issues raised in this forum concern. That's not to say that these issues shouldn't be raised, but only that it illustrates in sharp relief how the priorities of the casual flight simulation community are not in line with those of LM, and that quite a bit of what this community is looking for is actually rather shallow, all things considered.

My unsolicited and likely to be ignored opinion is that while it is certainly understandable to want those things we've become comfortable with in FSX to join us in P3D2, it is completely baffling to me how many are so quick to throw out the entire platform, 2 weeks after release mind you, for things like anti-aliasing and water, nearly throwing temper tantrums over trivialities.

There is a saying I used in another thread that I will use again here: Don't let perfect be the enemy of the good. If this community actually wants to be a part of any further advancement of the platform most of us use, it's about time we got some perspective.

Regards,

Brian Doney

And you are wrong again!

I am using Prepar3D as provided by Lockheed Martin with no add-ons and using the features/facilities provided by Lockheed Martin. When I do so It crashes.

That is a bug - end of story.

Sounding off that you have a bug is not actually helping you, the community or LM

Please could you report your fault in full to LM so that everyone can benefit.

Thank you.

I am a little disappointed that they have left so much of the heavy lifting to 3rd party developers (ATC, weather, scenery, flight models). But it is what it is.

They've made it clear that they're only updating the platform and not the content, and I'm disappointed with that too. I don't understand the people who say that this is FS11, because it just isn't. FS11 would have been so much more.

If they're depending on 3rd-party developers to improve the content, then something must be done quickly to make at least the most vital add-ons fully compatible with Prepar3D 2.0. I don't understand what was the purpose of the beta, since it clearly did very little.

Brian, apologies for excerpting only a small part of your post, but I think this is a point I would like to address.  I don't see too many people saying that they are "willing to throw out the entire platform".  That's a false dillemma.  What I'm seeing most of all is simply people saying that they will wait to complete a full transition, and they are dissapointed that they are running into some things that they really didn't want to run in to.  Also, I think we should bear in mind that some things that are trivialities to one, could be a complete deal breaker to another.

What is so hard to understand that P3D V2.0 with all the bugs reported and 95% of add on not working  "WAS NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME (RELEASE)...."

I know that you would like to be right just one time but again....wrong. Prepar3D seems to be working just as LM expected. It is just not working well with FSX add ons. Duh!! It is like saying Chevy should not release a new Car until it can be fixed using all Ford parts. Pick another subject to try. Some day you will actually be right about something because after all, "Sometimes even a blind hog finds a nut".

Seriously, is this your statement or LM's statement? If not your statement LM is saying that P3D V2.0 seems to be working as expected add on free, can you provide me with a link cause last time I looked I saw a lot of complaints about V2.0 and nothing from LM stating that peoples were complaining for no good reasons as V2.0 was working as expected add on free...if no link... I guess I'm right....right?

Your last question leave me no choice but to include a link or you will believe that you are right...so here is the link http://www.x-plane.com/desktop/home/

"...if no link... I guess I'm right....right?"

Based on your own logic and rule...you sir are wrong.

But will there ever be a full transition? How do you improve things without breaking things in the process? I agree with what you have said in your recent posts, but as Brian quite rightly pointed out - "There is criticism and there is petulant whining", quite often from the same few. Yes, they are probably running into some things that they really don't want to run into, but does that give them the right to constantly put this product down and say it is crap? I don't think so.

And then of course there is Alain. Hopefully he will be given more time out soon because all he wants to do is stir the pot so to speak, just for the sake of arguing.
