P3Dv2 EZCA setup tutorial

Recommended Posts

This is for those that have EZCA+TIR already in their FSX install. It also requires the Estonia Migration Tool. Is there other ways of doing this? Sure. Fill your boots. This is how I did it.

OK so what I did was this...

1. Copied the BETA EZCA P3Dv2 executable (EZCA.EXE) from here (link below) into "C:\Program Files (x86)\EZCA" folder after backing up the original of course.

2. The I opened the "EXE.XML" file in my "C:\Users\Charles\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX" (Right Click and Edit) and copied these lines from it...

<Name>EZdok camera addon</Name>
<Disabled>false</Disabled>
<Path>C:\Program Files (x86)\EZCA\EZCA.exe</Path>

And pasted them into the <Launch.Addon> section of the same filename (again Right Click Edit the file) in "C:\Users\Charles\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2

NOTE: to see your AppData folder you have to enable "Show hidden Files, Folders and Drives" in your Windows Options. Google it if you are not sure what I am saying. Otherwise the folders are invisible and you cannot reach them.

So it now looks like this in the EXE.XML file in the Prepar3D v2 folder.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?><SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">  <Descr>Launch</Descr>  <Filename>exe.xml</Filename>  <Disabled>False</Disabled>  <Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>
  <Launch.Addon>
  <Name>EZdok camera addon</Name>
  <Disabled>false</Disabled>
  <Path>C:\Program Files (x86)\EZCA\EZCA.exe</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
</SimBase.Document>

3. Then I ran Estonia Migration Tool and activated virtual FSX. This is migration state for the tool fooling installers into thinking the P3D folder is FSX.
4. Ran the EZCA Config tool and clicked Configure FSX (really doing the P3D folder planes)
5. Then in the Migration Tool I de-activated virtual FSX so FSX will work normally again.

TEST: Fired up my P3Dv2 and lo and behold... EZCA and my TrackIR work exactly as FSX. My cameras are working from FSX without copying anything over anywhere.

NOTE: one thing I did with P3D to make it match FSX controls settings (keybindings and so on) really fast was I copied over Standard.XML from C:\Users\Charles\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\Controls into C:\Users\Charles\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\Controls... I always make backups first.

Since I have 3 or 4 of the same Carenado and RealAir planes ported over to P3D, I was able to check if all my Cameras from FSX were there and they were.

Now I still stand by my recommendation that LM just write a script to a key that takes the current EYEPOINT coordinates and inject them into the camera file for the plane you are currently in so that people can adjust and save the default pilot view (most important and used view of all). It would be simple I bet for someone smarter than me and it would prevent people from having to worry about workarounds and other crap like this.

Charles.
