ASN Fantastic!

Recommended Posts

Just tried the 7 day Demo! After my first day my conclusion is,

I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT!

Woooooooooooow! REX textures and ASN is a winner!

Took the Real Lancair from PAKT to about 30 miles out, what an experience going thru the cloud and turbulence! Then Saint Maarteen to San Juan, again, amazing again! No cloud popping, slight turbulence!

Finally took a 60 nm flight with A2A C172 from YRED. Almost crashed going thru the clouds! This give new meaning to Instrument Flying!

It models icing conditions really well...I lost all manifold pressure in my C377 this morning shortly out of KFNT (it was severe icing retention near that airport) and ASN let me know about it....had to land on a highway....

Agree with the others on how well ASN models the weather.  It made me use a feature of Radar Contact that I had never used before, request ATC to deviate for Weather.  Well done Hi-Fi Sim.

Is everyone using REX cloud textures with ASN? Has anyone tried ASN with HDEv2, Oscar Clouds v4 or other texture sets with good results? I thought I read that ASN no longer includes its own textures.

I have not flown FSX for a LONG time. This ASN post peaked my interest. So I downloaded the demo and I am HOOKED. I can't believe the weather accuracy. Is there a team of people at Hi-Fi sitting there monitoring where all the pilots are at and creating the weather for each of us induvidually? lol. That's how good it is. Hi-Fi, you've done your homework and it WILL pay off. Congratulations on getting me interested in FS again!

I expect many AS customers are using their textures, but yes I'm using REX and have just installed the new REX Direct textures to try out as well.  They work great!

I use ASN on a client PC along with X-Graphics. Just curious, Do you use REX4 on FSX or client PC?

SSSHHHH!!  Trade secret!!!  :)  Thanx for the comments. I have a CFI friend who said the same thing - he had just about given up on FSX and ASN made it a completely new sim to him.

Can anyone confirm if I buy ASN for FSX now, I can use the same license when the P3Dv2 version comes out?
I really don't want to have to buy 2 copies, but the demo has me absolutely floored.

Answered in another thread: One purchase = Both licences.

Same here, I almost deleted FSX, luckily I had some shared addon sceneries, so I kept it.

Then along came Mary

I mean ASN

Yes, one license works for both sims. It says so on their product page as well as had been stated here by Damian numerous times that one licensr works fir both sims.

Three Amazingly Excellent ASN features, which I had to have for keeps after 2 days in the demo period:

1.  Fly into a dense cloud bank and it's instant white out with 0% visiblity; say good bye flying though verticle sheets of billboard clouds.

2.  Tunable dynamic cloud radius, based on altitude and weather condition.  This feature ROCKS beyond belief for it only render clouds which are visually meaninful for your situation.  This has the potential for GREATLY improving performance and as far I can tell with my gtx 660 ti, my need for a better gcard solely to handle dense cloud cover may have just vanished.  For the paces I've put it though...it works...my FPS is no longer plunging when flying through dense cloud layers..but then again future testing may change my mind on this.

3.  The dreaded FSX haze layer has been conquered, that is if you ever care to enable it.  For now it only appears ONCE YOU ARE ABOVE THE HAZE.  I've wanted the feature since FSX released!!! BRAVO!!!!

Also, the depictions and effects are amazing...all these years wasted with substandard weather depiction and I didn't even know what I was missing....or did I just die and go to (FSX) heaven...

I did KJFK-KMIA-KATL-KMEM over the past two days with ASN and it's amazing.

I love how you can go to spot view of your a/c when flying through fog or clouds and your airplane is enveloped in the moisture, sometimes so much you can't even see your a/c in spot view or you see your a/c coming into and out of the moisture. Kind of a volumetric effect that only P3D offered but now I see it in FSX with ASN
