War Thunder Soldiers On

Recommended Posts

War Thunder continues to pass milestone after milestone, and make money hands over fist while doing it. There are now more than 5 million flyers, and at this point, the full simulation mode, even if only used by a relative minority, can hold its head up with almost anything else out there. Fortunately it seems, the developers have more than enough money overflowing to indulge even that small minority.

In the meanwhile, I think this single vid probably exceeds the yearly development budget of most of our current sims!

And........ Thar' be simmers here!!! Arrrrrrrrrrr!!!  B)

Now that's what I'd call a modern rendering engine for flight sims!

That's just hurtful... I've just managed to convince myself, after weeks of cognitive self therapy, that P3Dv2 looks good :)

Realistic scenery, lighting, shadows and clouds, lots of AI, and great FPS. Why not possible in a civill flight sim?

I have no idea. Maybe the Gaijin folks visited AVSIM and thought, to hell with it, those whiners don't deserve to use our terrain engine...

Imagine the RealAir Duke v2 low and slow in that scenery...

I've actually asked a few questions about textures and things in our present sims, but I'm not sure how many people, so accustomed to our current offerings, are aware of whats really possible now and whats already out there.

Sometimes, when I am slightly disappointed at what I am seeing when most other people seem satisfied or even ecstatic, I feel like an alien!

But it really is nice to see scenery, effects, lighting, sound and etc so nicely done and so seamlessly working together that your mind simply accepts the pseudo-reality and becomes totally immersed.

That's when I can feel a smile forming.

This is not fair!!!!

Ya' aint seen nothing yet!!

Tank battles are now entering the beta stage. At first it will just be arcade mode with the tanks only, but will eventually feature 4 game sections, solo planes, solo tanks, solo ships and WW mode, which will throw everything together. This has always been the ultimate goal of War thunder, the holy grail of a fully integrated multi-player battle field, and they are working diligently towards that goal.

There are hints of HUGE areas to accommodate hundreds of players simultaneously. In the meanwhile here is a vid of the new tank (arcade) mode.

The detail you are seeing on the ground unbelievably, means exactly you you might think it does. The detail from the air is updated to match the ground graphics.

Mail those guys to make it in a civilian flightsim version, and were done!

Look at the shadows, also in the cockpit, P3D, eat your hart out!

What size area does it cover? Might answer the performance questions.

Pretty cool though!

Its been expanding steadily. Keep in mind they need to keep areas to a reasonable size or players might not even be able to find one another!! That being said, area size has gone from 65km x 65km to 100km x 100 km then 200km x 200km with the next maps expected to be 300km x 300km, or 90,000 square km.

Mac version is in Beta.
