Annoying pop-ups with AVSIM?

Recommended Posts

Guest Lobaeux4

Everytime I open up AVSIM (I've got it as my starting place by default) I get those annoying pop-up ads, asking if I want to get rid of pop-up ads! This is the only website I frequent that does it. Anyway around it. Seems the only pop-up ads I get are for software to get rid of pop-ups! :-mad

I am by no means a computer wiz so use this with caution as I don't know of any cascading impact. The solution was posted here several days ago.Go hereStart>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>ServicesIn the list of services is 'Messenger'Right Click Messenger>Properties>Startup TypeChange to Manual or DisableSince I did this I haven't had one single one of those pop-ups.Hope this helps BobL

Somehow it's getting around this. I've had mine set to disable for awhile now. Just can't figure it out.

Here you go,Just follow my instructions here, and no more pop-ups, unders, etc....http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...547&page=#10574BTW- It's not Avsim, it is the fact you ar enot running a clean system. It isn't your fault either, There are just a bunch of scumbuckets out there that enjoy hijacking the security flaw prone systems manufactured by a certain operating system. Guess which ones? :-)Hope this helps,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/bannerav.gif.About Politics.net - FORUMShttp://pub207.ezboard.com/bpoliticsgivemel...tyorgivemedeath.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml

Howdy,Do a Search on your system for SearchSquire. This is an insidious side-bar download that attaches itself to IE and might just be the cause of your pop-up problems. If you do find SearchSquire (you will definately find a reference to it in your Cookies folder as well as a .dll in your Windows/System32 folder), do a Google search for getting rid of it. It is really pernicious (it writes about 5 different registry entries and has a slew of other files attached to it). You'll be a very happy camper once it's gone.

Do a Google search for Spybot Search and Destroy. Download, install, and run it. I will probably find hundreds of nasty things you've picked up surfing around and get rid of them. I run it about once a week on all my computers and I'm constantly surprised by how much advertising garbage that can attach itself to your system just by innocent routine internet surfing.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x

I have all the direct links you need in the thread I linked to above.Simply Put.DUMP IEIt is a flawed, security hole ridden porgram that has not been properly updated in a long time.Go try Firebird, by Mozilla. It is here.http://mozilla.orgIt will stop all your pop-ups, and see how fsat these forums load in comparison to IE.I promise you will be impressed.Regards,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/bannerav.gif.About Politics.net - FORUMShttp://pub207.ezboard.com/bpoliticsgivemel...tyorgivemedeath.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml

Hi,Q= Can I transfer all my favorites over to Firebird?A= Yes you can, quite easily.Just open IE, choose file - import export, and then save it to your desktop. It will save as a bookmark . htm fileThen open up your Firebird Browser, and choose bookmarks - manage bookmarks - file, import and choose your bookmark . htm file that was created for you on the desktop. It's as simple as that. The first time you use Firebird, I recommend you run the pop-up stopper.Just go to a site that you know has a pop-up, like http://drudgereport.comThen you can choose to block any subsequent pop-ups. Simple as that.Let me know how you like it.Regards,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/bannerav.gif.About Politics.net - FORUMShttp://pub207.ezboard.com/bpoliticsgivemel...tyorgivemedeath.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml

I second what Joe says about Mozilla Firebird. I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows xp and am now using Firebird as my default browser rather than Internet Explorer. I have not had one single popup since I started using it and Joe is right about it loading pages faster. It is once again a joy for me to browse the internet :-lol.
