Gauges flickering

Recommended Posts

My old Radeon 4000 series video card recently died and I replaced it with a Radeon HD 7770.  I have to say that the frame rates haven't jumped as much as I was hoping and I have the most annoying flickering in the gauges.  It doesn't happen all of the time but it is very distracting.  There are times when the GPS is almost worthless because it flickers so badly.  I have tried adjusting about every setting I can think of in FS and the AMD/ATI control panel.  I know FS9 is getting a bit on the old side but I have it configured the way I like and have been using Flight Sim since the days of framewire graphics.

I don't want to get into the whole ATI/Nvidia debate but is there any hope for this card or should I return it and get something different?  I have a quad core AMD system and FS2004 is the only game I play on it so I don't need a real high end card but want something decent.  Any recommendations for settings or another card would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi,  Had this happen myself, usually the GPS but also other gauges, especially on the Howard 500 Twin . Try reducing your frame rates, found this worked for me, don't know what causes it, but worth a try.

Setting frame rates to 100% ,opening the Garmin GPS, causes flickering. I reduced to 65% , still flickering but at 62%, no flickering. Might be an idea to reduce all your settings and gradually increase them. I'm not saying it is this that is causing the fault, but I find I'm forever correcting something and experimentation maybe the only answer.  I've had problems with updated graphics drivers (Nvidia) , I think latest ones are made for car chase type games, and could be too powerful for FS9. Just a thought. I have a very powerful rig, specially made for simming but still get some problems.

Nothings perfect, hope you succeed . Have a good Christmas.

In my opinion, and it is my opinion, having downloaded updates for NVidia 680, according to the info given, these updates are for crash bang games, flight simulation doesn't get a mention. It may be worth downloading a "zip" of your present driver, and saving it, and perhaps trying some older drivers, you can always revert back.  It may be useful to search through forums like Tips and Tricks on Avsim or on other sites, also Google, although I have had a quick look but not too helpful.  Must fly, piloting some old geezers sleigh !!
