Why is the PMDG B772 Worth the Price?

Featured Replies

I like the MD-11 idea myself.  That's certainly an automated airplane.  I found the learning curve harder than most because of it's unfamiliar philosophy and trying to stay in the loop of what the plane is doing with the various systems when they are on auto.  I also find it somewhat unpleasant to hand fly because it is attitude stable, but not speed stable.  From what I can gather about the current bug in the T7 trim/fbw, it is currently attitude stable, when in fact it should more correctly be speed stable (conventional feel, manual trim to speed).

Ryan, you've been here 7 years, and know your way around FSX and 3rd party addons..

If you can't find your own reason to want something that is subjective to the person using it, then maybe it isn't the product for you?

Isn't that point of these forums? To discuss ever-evolving third party addons?

What's your opinion on the aircraft?

He was a beta tester so I highly doubt he will say anything nasty lol

I don't think anyone has anything nasty to say about the plane. I've said negative things about something I've beta'd before hehe. I do appreciate all the truthful responses.

Not quite.  Lots of people are having with it freezing.  I certainly am.  I know its not my PC as I am doing some NGX flights as we speak and not a single freeze.

Oh? Is it a VAS issue? What is their stance on it?

Under investigation...  I hope its fixed in SP1 otherwise I find it very unflyable.

I can see how it would be frustrating especially at current price point. Hopefully they can resolve it!

I think in your case in may not be worth it.  I have it and the NGX and I think you will find it a bit boring vs the NGX, it is very automated and really not that much to do to get it flying.  If you are not into airliners that much then are you really going to like a 4 to 14 hour flight length?  You seem to be more focused on the speed but really at 35000ft whether you are flying at 0.84 or 0.89 its not going to make that much difference to the experience.  Having said all of this I do like the T7, I think it will actually be helped by the addition of FS2Crew.

Agreed with Mark on this one and I would go as far as to say that you will not like it.

Regarding speed its a non issue since you wont be above 250kts until 10,000ft especially as you fly pilot edge you wont be able to get out of that one  :(

You will feel the power though during the take off roll and if you have hi fidelity sound and opus DH the experience is stunning.

I find it a all a bit bland and a bit boring compared to the NGX and it needs FS2 crew badly. What I have done is installed FScaptain (on sale) and that seriously ramps up the immersion and highly recommended for the T777

Well, my first reply was not a true reply to your query, but I know why I have the 777...

It was actually offered to me, but I would have bought it anyway.  I spent one week reading the manuals before even trying to strat it.

There are actually different models simulated, and you can choose and save the various configuration options, depending on airline / model.

The interface that started with NGX has been brought to even higher standards, making the configuration of the aircraft, from strictly technical aspects pertaining it operation as a 777, to details that will allow you to fine tune the way it runs on your system really a charm to go through.

The time compression feature is absolutely GREAT!  It's a must on a model like this for people like me not able to wait for 10+ hrs for a long haul to go from departure to arrival. At the same time I never had any problems with this feature being enabled, and, as a matter of fact I never had a single CTD with this complex aircraft in FSX DX9. I have moved to FSX DX10 and have also ORBX FTX Global installed and ASN, and the three short flights I did for testing were uneventful and, I would say, even smoother than in DX9 with default FSX scenery!

I really consider this model as my preferred FSX add-on ex-aequo with the Majestic Q-400, with whom I have also completely fallen in love too :-)

I seldom start the NGX. As a matter of fact I believe I would have to study the manuals again to recall how to andle it :-/

I need to learn how to have addons offered to me instead of buying them

Aamir Thacker

You're right!

And I actually got two offers - first time in my simmer life!  One of this forum members offered me the 777 and another friend decided to give me the Std license for IL2 Battle of Stalingrad :-)

I'm such a luck guy!!!!

BTW: Merry Merry Christmas!!!!  I'll try a short EGLL - LPPT this morning in the 777 - bad weather beautifully injected by ASN :-) (Ah! also offered, but for different reasons ;-) )

My freezes have greatly decreased since I deleted the logbook.bin of FSX. (I had one freeze in the meantime, but so far, it hasn't reproduced.)

VAS usage may be higher with the T7 than with other planes but, IMO, parts of the discussion seem to be slightly exaggerated to me.

Happy Christmas, community!

One last thing..

Having 230000 lbs of thrust in the palm of your hand in something else. It's utterly mesmerising how powerful this aircraft is, and it's also extremely addicting.

I giggled like an utter moron the first 20 or so take offs. Then it reduced to a snigger. Today, after a metric buttload of seat time, it's reduced to a maniacal grin. Thing is, it still makes me smile!

You're making me like you and hate you at the same time! STAHP!  :P
