ASN - Where's the turbulence?

Recommended Posts

The FSX turb settings won't make any difference, the only thing that can interfere with ASN is a few incompatible versions of FSUIPC which were (ironically) created to stop ASN interfering with other weather engines. Make sure you have version 4.927b or later of FSUIPC installed and also for extra measure make sure ALL weather settings in FSUIPC itself are turned off.

I see 4.927a as being the current version on Peter Dowson's webpage, where did you get 4.927b?

The page below always has the latest download, the http://www.schiratti.com/dowson site always appears out of date but the actual download link normally does have the latest full release. The interim updates you will find below, they are worth having.

Thanks for the heads up on 4.927b.

I'm updated with the ASN hotfix and latest FSUIPC. Still no gusts of wind in my ASN despite the windy weather here in the UK.

ASN only appears to generate turbulence when CB is in a METAR. Why does it not produce any gusts?

Thanks

Adam

Also be sure to DISABLE wind smoothing or any FSUIPC wind options.

This is weird.

This morning I attempted to fly some circuits at EGMH Manston which was forecasting a strong gusting southerly wind with a 30knot crosswind to Runway 28.

The turbulence was so bad I went off the runway while trying to land in my Falcon 50 (not sure what its crosswind limit is but I think I may have reached it...)

Then tried The Just Flight Flying Club Seneca (my benchmark aircraft for testing conditions) and was getting blown around all over the place. So bad was it I had to untick the "enhance turbulence" tab!

So for now it looks as though the turbulence feature works as described at some of my airfields just not others with similar METAR's. Will continue experimenting as it's quite fun...

All the best for 2014 ASN pepes!

Hello everybody!

For those who also want to experience some nice CAT (clear air turbulence):

I just flew KLM flight KL 1693 from Amsterdam to Lisbon (2014-01-01, EHAM DEP 1140Z, LPPT ARR 1435Z, A/C PMDG 737-900).

Route: EHAM LEKO1S LEKKO UN872 ERIGA UZ218 BATAX INBOM INBO2B LPPT.

Between waypoint XARIS and ROVAK (after passing the spanish coastline southbound) at FL 360 the turbulence started and nicely varied in occurrence and strength all the time.

The seat belts signs stayed on the next approx. 160 NM to T/D, actually without interruption until landing. So passengers had a bad time...

There was a temperature gradient inside the tropopause (ISA deviation) from -7 °C over central Europe to +2°C over the spanish peninsula.

Coincidentally this was the region of an actual jetstream entering european mainland.

For those who like spotting more than subtile wing flex, I can very much recommend this flight

Always happy landings,

Claus

Anyone for severe turbulence?

Try this:

2014-01-04 1550Z LFMP (Rivesaltes / France, WX by ASN)

Fly the ILS Z 33 approach via the LANET transition.

Use extreme caution or you probably won't make a safe landing :O

Good luck,

Claus

Hello,

is it possible to show probable turbulence area on flight plan route on XGauge?

...and one more questions (little off topic) - is it normal that ASN WX doesn't work with PMDG T7 in case loading T7 flight after loading default fight?

Example: when I firstly load default flight, then load previously saved T7 flight, engine doesn't work (wind is freeze).

Lucas

I have experienced low turbulence in cloud and heavy weather and have posted on the forum over at Hifi. Hoping for a useful response.
