December 28, 201312 yr Does anyone have this problem in a GA piston a/c when power is applied ? The a/c just yaws in the wrong direction on mine. I have the latest updates installed.
December 28, 201312 yr Hi drix9, actually, they also yaw to the right on FSX, AeroflyFS, DCS, IL2, RoF... almost any flight simulator worth the mention. There are many reasons for that yawing tendency, and you will find across the Internet many documents explaining why. I can suggest, for a start: - Effect of Propeller of Aircraft Dynamics - Yaw-Wise Torque Budget ( in See How it Flies... ) The is a problem, presently, with the way X-Plane translates this effects more into roll, when that aircraft is airborne, than it should, and there you will probably find it more "strange" specially when compared to other simulators you may have used. While a rolling moment exists too, due to torque, other forces balance it, and make the yaw much more evident. Your single prop aircraft will tend to yaw and roll left ift their prop turns CW, and to the right otherwise. Twins present the same problem if both their props turn in the same direction, and even have what is called a "critical engine", as you can see explained on the texts above ( the left one if the props turn CW, the right one otherwise), although the "turning tendencies" are usually less pronounced on a twin prop with both engines working correctly. Only a twin with it's props turning on opposite directions will be "saved" from those effects. Some aircraft ( twins and other multiprops ) are designed with props in the left and right wings turning opposite to overcome the overdone rolling tendencies in X-Plane, even if their real counterparts have the props rotating in the same direction. It appears that version 10.30 of X-Plane can bring good news regarding a less pronounced presence of rolling tendencies, and hopefully more persistent yaw, on high power / high AoA situations. It would at least be good to see the rolling tendencies wash out effectively with speed / dynamic pressure... December 28, 201312 yr Left yaw (right rudder pedal to compensate) for clockwise turning props as viewed from the cockpit, and the reverse otherwise. I've known a few sim planes that do a slight twist to the right, when throttling up, before they start the left drift. Seems those were in FSX. (note: can't think of any real single engine planes, that do that slight twist to the right. Would be a sim thing.)
