December 29, 201312 yr In the A320, we have the ECAM warnings, which tells us the exact cause of a failure and the measures to take. What about the 737NG? Has the pilot to diagnose the problem by his knowledge and refer to the manual to take the measures? In this case, which manual? Thanks
December 29, 201312 yr We use the QRH or Quick Reference Handbook. It gives you the meanings of the lights you'll see and what actions to take. It's not always straight forward, so systems knowledge is helpful, of course. Some failures can cause multiple lights, and you need to know the root cause. Take your time and make sure you diagnose the problem. Matt Cee
December 30, 201312 yr Author Thanks for your answer. Last night I had a bus failure (don't remember which) that triggered many other failures. I really didn't know what was happening until I searched in the "failures page", which is non-existent in the real aircraft... So, I see that diagnosing a failure in the NG is not an easy task... Thanks
December 30, 201312 yr Some elec failures you won't be able to fully diagnose in the air, but only on ground, and then you will need AMM instead of just QRH. I was pleasantly surprised after one such error that I could use BITE functionality of the airplane in conjunction with the AMM to isolate the fault. --Peter Fabian
