End Of December - What's The Damage?

EngineRoom

Recommended Posts

December is always the most expensive time of year for me as a flight simmer - lots of great stuff always gets released and my bank balance takes a hammering.

Over the festive period I've treated myself to:

FTX Ireland

FTX Vector

Milviz Bell 407

Classics Hangar Fw190D/Ta152H

REX4

Wings Over Flanders Fields + Skin Pack

RAM upgrade for my main PC.

Earlier in the month I splurged on SkyMaxx Pro as well as the LES Saab 340 and FF 757 for XP10.

I don't want to add up what all this lot came to, but it's got to be a good few hundred... lucky for me the Pound Sterling is quite strong at the moment!

I see that PC Aviator's holiday sale ends tomorrow, so I might just maybe get myself some more MSE2 states, but I don't think I've got the HDD space left! I'm expecting my annual bonus in the next month or so. I'm pondering on whether or not to retire my old GTX480 and get a new GTX780. I also have to replace my broken TrackIR.

Anyone else treat themselves to some good flight simming stuff this month?

Between the Black Friday sales and the December sales and stuff I just had to have, it's been a rather expensive end to the year:

- Cloud9 Xclass for Canada, US, Central & S. America, Africa & Asia.

- Milviz 407

- REX4 Textures

- Aerosoft Seahawk/Jayhawk X

- Aerosoft Bronco X

- Virtavia Sea King

- Virtavia T-34C

- Virtavia Caribou

- Oryxsim Canadian Airports

- FSDT CYVR

- FSDT GSX

- Orbx EU - England, Wales, Scotland

- Orbx CRM

- Orbx AU

- Orbx PAKT, PAJN, CZST, CEF4

- Aerosoft Los Angeles X

- Just Flight EE Electric

There's a few more that I can't recall off the top of my head, and the FS Pilot Shop confirmation email just lists the arcane zip file names, not the actual products to which they belong.  Needless to say, it's been enough!!

Almost forgot... since I had picked up the DCS A10 a long time ago on a Steam sale, this season I picked up almost all of the other DCS modules as well.

Wow looks like you spent more than me!

January and February are usually a pretty quiet time of the year in terms of new releases. Good for me really as it gives my wallet time to recover.

The stuff on my radar at the moment is the Milviz King Air 350i which looks like it will be a winner, and the Aerosoft EE Lightning, the recent announcement of which was a really nice suprise for me (typical, wait years for a Lightning and two come along! Nothing wrong with the JF one but I expect the Aerosoft one to be deeper in terms of systems, and the VC and metallic skins look fantastic). I'm also looking forward to the JF Canberra PR9, from the shots released it looks like they've gone the extra mile with this one and should be their best yet. I'm also waiting to hear more on the hint a few months ago that they have a VC10 planned as well.

I'm afraid to look at my credit card balance but I suspect I've done near £350 this month in the sales, the good news is there is not much I want left for next year although the coolsky dc-9 and flight 1 king air are calling.......

Compared to a lot of things flight simulation is a cheap hobby so am not complaining.

Sad part was, I forgot about my recent hardware purchase: GTX 780 Ti.  At least that one isn't all for flight simulation...

The Milviz King Air is on my radar as well, as is the Aerosoft/DA CRJ, the Aerosoft F-14 and the Aerosoft EE Lightning.  The announcement for the Lightning caught me by surprise as well; I probably would of passed on the JF version if I'd of known.

Those four planes on my radar are probably what's going to make me break my New Year's Resolutions.

The F1 King Air is very good. Again kind of funny that we had pretty much nothing in the way of King Airs since the old Aeroworx one for FS9, then in a relatively short space we get Carenado, Flight One and Milviz all hitting the King Air.

the Aerosoft F-14

I forgot about this one! It's supposed to be the A model if I'm not mistaken? Which at least makes it different from Dino's D model. I'm also hoping the Milviz F-15C will get released in 2014. Metal2Mesh have recently made the beta of their Mirage 2000C available, that's definitely one to watch.

I'm hoping that the Accu Sim F-104 will see the light of day in 2014. I think they were supposed to be working up towards doing an F-4. Now that would be worth waiting for. Probably not in 2014 though...

I wonder what happened with the Vertigo DC-3 and Mosquito FB.VI? I remember Vertigo announced they were shutting their doors but then shortly after that announced their projects were continuing? I think the DC-3 has been pretty well covered by the excellent freeware one over at Sim Outhouse - especially now Jan Visser is working on a period DC-3 VC to supplement the modern one already available. Dave Garwood did a great freeware Mosquito B.IV and said he wouldn't do an FB.VI because Vertigo were doing a payware one. If the Vertigo one has been dropped then perhaps someone could persuade Dave to do an FB.VI.

I really hope that somebody in 2014 will announce they are going to do a new DHC-2. The Aerosoft one is really showing its age now.

Crap, I forgot all about that one.  More than any other, I'm hoping on that particular plane.  As much as I'm a huge fan of F-14's, that particular itch is scratched pretty good; but I sure have a soft sport for F-104's.

Have yet to fly it, you know how it goes in the sales but based on my OMG experience with the sim skunk works av-8b I suspect the f-104S I bought will be equally as awesome. Yes the a2a f-104 will be as great as always but I don't think it will be as a jump, ahead as their other aircraft simple because the SSW aircraft is so good.

Now the a2a F4...........
