FTX Global at 30,000 feet

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I was wondering from those of you who have FTX Global what it's like at 30/40K feet? Can you notice a difference and get benefit from flying that high? Of course I know it won't be the same as low level flying but is it still awesome?

Thanks

It's better than default. I'll give it that. But, it still suffers from the constraints of the land class underneath. Oh, and, if you're Kermit, you'll love it. Everything and everywhere is some shade of green. :). Hopefully OpenLC will fix a lot of this.

I love photoreal and bought it to fill in the areas that I don't have photoreal. It is good down low but above 1000 and I'd rather have photo real. Some people say it is what FSXI would have looked like. If so, FSXI wouldn't have been that much of an improvement. Again, it's good and because it covers the globe, I guess $90 was worth it. But it's not that good.

Agreed. It isn't as good as they claim it to be, there are a lot of things missing. Is it worth €90+ or so? Not in my opinion. €50 would have been better for what you get, its stupidly overpriced!

Now that I have it, I am happy with it but I did feel sick spending that much on it and still do after a few weeks of having it installed.

Yeah, I hear you...I had that sick feeling too for a few days. Now, like I said, I look at it and say well, at least it improves the whole planet. I do like the winter textures too so again, it's ok and that sick feeling is gone. $50 or $60 would have been a much better price though. This price is more than the NGX and as much as the T7. When you think about, those two products are top of the line in what they do. While this, not so much. So, it should be priced accordingly but that "it covers the world" argument makes up for the gap in quality.

I never bought it either since I  mainly fly tubes and am happy with the coloring of GEX for both the North America and Europe. The one thing I do like about FXTG is the night lighting, but with the way i've setup UTX I am pretty happy with it but it doesn't cover the globe.

The other thing that has kept me from trying FXTG is that with some of the default files it changes, even though they get backed up, is that I am afraid of installing it and having problems with my currently flawless FSX install.

If they took the lighting aspect of FTXG and packaged a separate global vector lighting product I would probably buy it. Even though it wouldn't have the autogen based point lights outside of the roads, it would be a product that I would strongly consider.

Upon my first few installations of FTXG it messed up my whole FSX even though I backed up, it didn't do a good job of backing up!

I had to reinstall FSX about 5 times in the space of 3 days due to FTXG. Luckily I found a way to fix the corrupt textures I was getting and now have it looking great.

Personally, I bought FTXG as a one shot "beyond-airport" scenery solution. Let's be fair, the default textures weren't horrendous but they weren't particularly great either.

Now I speak for myself, but once I'm nice and established in cruise, I spend most of the time looking out the window, down at terra firma below me (when I'm not watching a TV show or a Movie, that is..), and in all honesty FTXG does improve upon the default texture in a way that is significantly noticeable (no repetition, far more varied and interesting to look at, and a little prettier too). What this essentially means is, I don't have to buy any more texture addons, be it region wise, or what not, my entire globe is covered, and all that's left for me to purchase for a satisfying tubeliner experience are addon airports.

So, I'm very happy with my purchase, it was well worth it, especially if you intend on flying to less covered areas like Asia.

To the OP, FTXG over default textures any day of the week. It's like comparing apples to oranges. The textures are darker than default, and with proper weather and cloud textures, almost looks photoreal in places, especially at higher altitudes.

Major improvement to me! Made NJ look like an FTX region and FTX Central is easy to use. I particularly like the change it has brought to tropical islands like Hawaii and the caribbean islands. Night and Day! I have not tried it past 20,000 ft but it looked good from there especially when you add in REX HD clouds and ASN.

Wish it was cheaper too, but then again, this will get used a lot!

(Night lighting is great too)

You mean sort of like this 'photo real' (that's FTX Global USA mid-west from 30000ft)?

Yeah...exactly.  Photo real but repeated many, many times.  Again, FTXG is better than default.  But, you're still left with stuff like this.

Whilst that kind of repetition is particularly nasty, I can't help feeling that there's some serious 'fisheye' effect there, caused by a very low zoom setting.  It might have been somewhat fairer if you'd posted a shot that wasn't zoomed out this much, as I very much doubt that this would look anywhere near as bad at the correct setting....but I could be wrong I guess.

Cheers

About as interesting as the real USA mid-west from 30,000ft. Boring area to view even with good landclass i'd be willing to bet.

Orbx OpenLC will most likely fix that issue in time.
