I can't fly my Q400

Recommended Posts

OK, I hold my hands up... I still can't fly the Majestic Q400 properly. I can get her up and running from C&D but still need to spend some more time reading the manual about programming the FMC and associated stuff. But that's not my problem, the problem is actually handling this girl. I don't quite know what the issue is, but for some reason, regardless of how I have the controllers set up in FSUIPC, the plane always feels like I'm trying to keep a soggy wet slab of lard on an overinflated life raft!! She floats this way and floats that way, as well as ballooning up and down, it doesn't feel very realistic at all. Does anyone else have this problem? Or can someone point me in the right direction. I'd like to get to the bottom of what the issue is, if in fact there is one, as apart from this problem I really love the plane. Cheers...

Under[CONTROLS] add stick_sensitivity_mode=0

Worked for my PMDG NGX together with sensitivity to max and dead zone to 0 (on ailerons and elevators)

Don't know if it is the same case but You may try it. No fsuipc here.

Hi Mephic, to be fair, the issue is nothing to do with the actual stick sensitivity, but more with the way the aircraft seems to balloon and float everywhere. I'll try your suggestion, thanks. Although

LOL!!  I'm sorry, I'm really of no help to you as I'm not flying that aircraft, but I just loved that analogy!!  Thanks for the late night laugh.
Hope you get things worked out.

Cheers.

Check this video out its long and hopefully it should should teach you on how everything works, if it doesn't than there could be some thing wrong at your end hopefully not

Hi Howard,

I know exactly what you're on about but have no solution. It's such an excellent aircraft but the one thing that ruins it for me is when the aircraft will just suddenly stop either mid taxi or in the air for a second and then carry on as normal about a second later.

Well, none of the above has happened to me? I am even using AccuFeel with it, and ASN as weather injector.

I confess I feared finding some weird behaviour due to the fact that it runs it's FDE externally, but no poblem at all.

There is only one thing that comes to my mind, and I hate to even suggest it because FSUIPC is such a great application, but on my last FSX install I left FSUIPC out. For one it caused problems with ASN, and also I have a very basic controller setup.

Could in any way those effects, that I have seen reported by other users, be related to the use of FSUIPC?

I don't know if it will help, but have you calibrated your controllers via the majestic control panel too?

Gavin, if you have autosave ticked in FSUIPC, that will cause the pausing you are talking about

FSX, without FSUIPC, hmm. Maybe I could remove the folder and see how it performs I guess, thanks matey...

Sure, all the calibration has been carried out, again and again. Thanks Kim...

Howard ,can you uncheck FSUIC to make sure 100% its not the problem

Next I would remove any type of ENB stuff, it can cause some bizarre issues

After that I would uncheck any weather eg ASN or OPUS

Get as close to vanilla regarding add ons as you can

And then try again

Hello Howard,

As far as floating is concerned, this aircraft floats 'naturally' immediately after take-off, before the autopilot is engaged. This floating (to the left) is a result of prop wash, and should be compensated with right rudder. While you are in the 'training' phase this can be difficult. What I did was turning the propwash off (in the Q400 ini file) for the time being. But maybe I'm kicking in an already open door. I don't have an explanation for the ballooning.

Kind regards,

René
