Uninstalling old graphic driver prior installation the new one?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I want to install the latest driver for my Nvidia 560TI graphic card. Which one of these ways do you recommend?

1- Uninstalling the previous one before installing the new driver

  or

2 - Just installing the new driver over the old one thereby updating it.

I remove using Display Driver Uninstaller from Guru3D and then update with the new one. I did get lazy for a while, just chucking new ones over the top, but after a while a few issues crept in, inducing the nV control panel failing to run. At least use the 'clean Install' check box when updating, if you don't want to use a 3rd party app.

New WHQL drivers (332.21) out today by the way

All the latest NVidia drivers have a CLEAN INSTALL option. It will remove the old, clean out the files and add the new. Easiest and safest way to change a driver. Absolutely no need for driver cleaners, etc. If you are using an old nvidia driver (why???) you'd have to do it manually.

Hi,

Just updated my Nvidia drivers and cleaned out my P3Dv2 shaders cache. I always remove video drivers via the control panel (all of them), reboot and then install the new drivers. I've never had a problem doing it this way and with Nvidia's latest (322.21) offering I'm getting 70 FPS on a triple monitor setup at 5760x1200.

All info sounds interesting, but I can't seem to find the 332.21 drivers online.  I recently (finally) updated my old drivers to 331.82, but got "fuzzy" characters in my FSX menu bar.!!!  Don't know why they should have degraded from my older drivers.  (GeForce GT660 Ti board).

Found the driver installer, but when I removed the old 331.82 driver (completely, I thought) it reinstalled 331.65 ???  But that looks good, and the menu characters (as well as the PDMG panel characters) are OK now, I think I will just keep that one.

Thanks for all the help.

Dave
