Aero soft release Free Sky Tools for x plane

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Just doing my daily sweep of forums over at aerosoft and found this.

Aerosoft Sky Tools Free is a sky enhancement tool that allows the user to change the way the sky, clouds, sun and moon looks in X-Plane 10. It basically allows the user to tweak the sky to match the conditions. There is after all a big difference between the sky on a hot humid August day and a clear frosty January day.

Sky Tools was developed by AWG Simulations as a commercial product but we decided to buy the full rights from them and to send it out as a free gift to the X-Plane users. We have done the same for FSX products and it was time to do the same for X-Plane. After all, X-Plane is one finest products and we support that simulator with many add-ons.

Available for free at Aerosoft's forum, it looks great.

Best wishes,

Jess B

Just downloaded it and it includes cloud textures also. I wonder how it'll run alongside SkyMaxx Pro?

Aerosoft does not recommend you run this with SkyMaxx Pro. However, I suspect someone could probably manually transfer the sky themes over without actually installing the program if one were interested.

Well I don't know if Aerosoft is just being cautious or if there is an actual conflict, but I'll certainly let you be the guinea-pig! :-)

By the way, if you download this, create a folder to unzip it to, because if you just unzip to your desktop, it will make a pretty untidy mess.

Also, I thought it was going to be a program or plugin or something. Its not. Simply some themes and stuff. I can't see why SkyMaxx would have a problem with any of it except the included shaders, which I would be wary of.

I've tried it, but I prefer HDR Envrionment X II, it looks better

HDR EnvX II was really incredible (within current environment/weather limitations of X-Plane) but the download link has been taken down, since it contained textures illegitimate taken from REX. Currently, not even screenshots using HDR EnvX II can be uploaded in the screenshot forum here.

AtomicFrawg has posted this on the chat board at the org. The person aerosoft bought the rights from, lifted the shaders from X-Plane 10 and was told he could use them as long as he did not sell the product. He has now sold the rights to aerosoft and made money on other peoples work (which the guy "Borrowed").

Not sure if this is true but if it is, then it's disappointing both that someone would do this and that Aerosoft did not check it.

To clarify here, SMP and this product are not compatible. You can do one or the other, but as long as SMP is installed it will override it.

Aerosoft agrees, but they add:

You can use some textures from the AS-Sky-Tool-Free with SkyMaxx Pro if you own both tools.... It are the same sky-texture-files.

See the manual from SkyMaxx Pro Page 3 "Modifying SkyMaxx Pro".
