New System for FSX, :)

Recommended Posts

Hello People,

I feel pleased being part of this forum :)

I managed to get the needed budget in order to proceed with a major PC upgrade for FSX.

I recently ordered the following hardware parts:

1.  CPU: i7 4770k

2. Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87X-UD7 TH

3. Videocard: Gigabyte N78TOC-3GD

4. RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB ( PC3-19200 , DDR3-2400 )

5. HDD:  WD1000DHTZ, 10000RPM 1TB

6. OS: windows 8.1 Pro

Hopefully within 2 weeks I will be able to install them and configure my new PC.

Is there anything special I need to consider?

Please share your thoughts

Thanks in advance!

Regards

Nick

I highly recommend this guide for FSX installation:

AVSIM also provides a hardware & software guide for FSX. It's close to rocket sience ( :P), but you will need it only for looking up certain terms or if you are encountering specific problems:

So you won't be overclocking at all then?

The stock cooler that comes with the CPU is basic. If I were you, I would consider an aftermarket air cooler. Then, if you gain more experience and wish to overclock some time in the future, that avenue is open to you.

After reading your reply, I decided to buy the following CPU cooler : Noctua NH-D14

Is anyone able to advise best settings for overclocking?

I can vouch for it. It's a great cooler. I have it installed at the moment in my simming rig, cool and quiet.

My preference is now for the Thermalright Archon SB-E X2 though, pretty much the same cooling as the D14, but no RAM clearance issues.
