Hi all,

I'm currently looking for a new aircraft to buy. I'm mostly interested in a short haul airliner that will be a challenge (pretty complex, ie. PMDG or Aerosoft AXE style). I've shortlisted my selection to either the Majestic Q400 or the Flight1 DC9. Which one of these would be better for short Australian regional hops?

By the way, if there are any other high quality short haul airliners that I missed, by all means please suggest them below.

Thank you in advance.

Thanks,

Kevin L

I don't have the DC9, but the Q400 is absolutely fantastic, one of the 3 planes I fly the most.

Oliver, the J41 is also a favorite of mine. Flies like a dream. The Q400 is a touchy girl to fly on approach, a great challenge, while the J41 is as easy as the C152 I fly at my local airport.

Q400 out of those 2.

I would recommend you check out the QualityWings 146 Collection, it is a very good short haul airliner. Although not as complex as PMDG in terms of systems, it is pretty much on par on all other accounts.

I have both and enjoy them immensely. To counter-balance the prevailing opinion so far, I'd say try the DC-9...IF you're interested in a very detailed add-on with fantastic visuals and a steam gauge-only cockpit. No FMS, no ND or PFD, just round dials and the radios to navigate by. It also comes with a terrific training and configuration program and will simulate failures to boot.

Warning: it is more resource-intensive than the Majestic Q400.

between the 2 I say q400. However, try to get the Leonardo Maddog if you dont have it yet, you may not like the graphics but it is very detailed and complex in term of systems and FDE.

I don't have the dash8 (I think I'm the only one) - but the PMDG J41 is an excellent aircraft. You might be able to find a boxed version for 20-30 bucks. I got mine online from some etailer.

I have both the J41 and the Q400.  Both are excellent, however, I would give the nod to the Q400 as Majestic is still developing and patching it while PMDG have decided not to keep working on the J41 and there are some obvious bugs and annoyances that need addressing.

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone!

Looks like I'll be getting the Q400. I already have the J41 and I love it, but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy the Q400 as much!

Thanks,

Kevin L

I guess I'm just waiting for the pro edition... Should have more features.

Will it be at an upgrade price over pilot edition? Or will they make you buy it in full?

Honestly the Q400 lost its luster a few weeks in. I just hate that aircraft. The flow is really bad, the cockpit design is worse, the fmc is a joke that must have been programmed by the employees children, but of course the addon itself is amazing. Great framerates and graphics only 2nd to PMDG. It has working weather radar which is amazing but be warned you might not actually enjoy flying it!

Regarding the Q400, does anyone have thoughts on the turbulence that was added in the latest update? That was the only thing that has kept me from buying it so far.
