Why won't my fsx remake fsx.cfg folder after removing old one?

Featured Replies

Been making a lot of updates on my system after replacing my old video card. In making some changes to the fsx.cfg file, I noticed it still listed my old video card so I decided to remove it after having read that if you do this, fsx will re-make a new one the next time it starts up. My problem is that it doesn't appear to have been re-made. It's no longer in the file where it was originally.

I kept the old file in another folder for safe-keeping.

Any ideas on why this would be?

Path I'm using is C:users/name/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX

Files are not hidden because it was there originally.

Folder path is correct.

Do you have a file called FSX.txt as well in that same folder? This is a shot in the dark but delete that one as well and see what you get.

I don't know when it happens or why, but my system sometimes creates an FSX.txt file. I have never used it but I opened it once and it looks to me just like the FSX.cfg file and I delete it every time I notice it sitting there. Has not hurt anything after all this time.

That's the problem.  If you don't see the file extensions then it's hard to see which one is the config.  FSX makes a FSX.txt file whenever you have a crash or something goes wrong.  So, if you delete the txt file, your fsx.cfg remains.  Happens to many of us.  You can go into folder view and change the setting that says hide known extensions (or something like that).

Got the answer guys. I'm not sure why but, there was a file which was just "fsx". It just wasn't listed with the cfg after it. There is another check box in the "Folders Options" for removing the extension file. Once I unchecked that it all made sense.

Thank you much for your help.

Is there an extensive FSX FAQ? I started to create one for my self, never could find a good one.
