I see what you mean. I had a quick word with Cheryl over a Skype link since she is currently enjoying a spell of warmer weather on holiday with her parents in La Manga, Spain.

No not that,

this....

"we will most likely include an 'Enable Weather Radar Data' in the OpusFSX configuration underneath the Enable Weather Map Data option, a free upgrade of course. However we will only provide an Opus weather radar 'out of sim' display in the OpusFSI along with possibly a higher resolution option."

We will produce our own weather radar display (which can be enabled/disabled) to supplement our existing weather maps and then it is up to PMDG to integrate our data into their 777.

Just thought I should let you know I have already added the Enable Live Weather Radar option and I am already extracting and processing the simulator's Cloud Density data within OpusFSX.

I am currently working on the processing software for this data to produce our highly detailed cloud density map for use by Weather Radars (e.g. the PMDG 777) which also takes into account the radar's look down angle.

It also looks like I am going to be able to couple this data with the current OpusFSX weather map on a cell by cell basis. All looks very promising for those who want a Weather Radar facility.

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.45.0 is now available for download on our website.

Remember when installing the OpusFSX_v345_Beta.msi file you must uninstall your current version before installing the new version (do not delete your previous \OpusFSX installation folder). After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

Adjusted the visibility layers to generate more realistic poor visibility at lower levels especially when there is a reduced surface visibility resulting from fog, mist, or haze.

Additional Spy window messages have been added to describe why a weather update is needed.

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.45.1 is now available for download on our website.

After installing please check all the settings in your Configure and Weather dialogues. You can download from http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi/downloads.htm

Added a non-linear element to the camera view transitions and modified some of the labelling in the Cameras dialog to make camera editing more intuitive. Also change the zoom transitions, the software now assumes the zoom level is as it left it for the previous displayed camera view and adjusts the zoom level from there rather than snapping back to the default level. These changes only affect zoom changes within the current view mode, changing view mode will still cause a full zoom reset.

Changed the ordered and labelling for the map options in the Live Weather Assistant and smaller LWE Weather Maps.

Future Enhanced Weather Maps and LWA Options ...

We are now considering adding options for Cruise Level Turbulence and Cruise Level Precipitation on both the smaller Weather Maps and the larger Live Weather Assistant (LWA) map.

We will also allow the Cruise Level for the map to be altered in the LWA so that users can check the conditions at various flight levels.

These changes will allow pilots to plan ahead and decide whether to request a level or route change from ATC. We believe these map options will supplement and even be far superior to any in-flight weather radar since you will be able to examine the conditions over the entire 800 x 800 mile weather region and make sensible planning decisions long in advance of reaching any stormy or turbulent weather.

We are also looking at allowing the weather and associated reports to be generated offline (i.e. prior to running the simulator). You will need to specify and process a flight plan for this feature since the LWE will need to know both your point of departure and destination. However, to use this feature you will only need to specify a simple flight plan providing the departure and destination points (e.g. EGNX EGKK).

Stephen,

Thanks for all your hard work! I finally got my Buttkicker Gamer and it works nicely with Opus. Quick question: Is the latest beta compatible with P3D 2.2?

Yes, fully compatible. Just remember if you are going to use volumetric fog you MUST set the options in BOTH P3D and in OpusFSX Weather Preferences. The VF options must both match in order to get correct visibility layering.

The 'Restrict Camera Views...' option in the Camera Control dialog will now restrict the listed camera views to all matching camera views including those assigned to 'All Aircraft'.

Includes further adjustments to the visibility layers to generate more realistic poor visibility at lower levels especially when there is a reduced surface visibility resulting from fog, mist, or haze.

Beta Version 3.45.5 has just been posted with the following additions and changes ...

Wing flex turbulence levels have been increased for all forms of turbulent air up to the maximum level allowed within the simulator.

All camera editing and aircraft.cfg file updates will ignore all aircraft and rotorcraft folders that do not contain a panel sub-folder. These aircraft and rotorcraft will no longer appear on the Restrict Listed Cameras or Assign Aircraft Types.. lists.

Includes a reorganised Camera Control dialog which adopts a more intuitive left to right and top down order for the camera configuration options.

Changed the ordered and labelling for the map options in the Live Weather Assistant and smaller LWE Weather Maps.

I have also started an OpusFSI Progress topic on our SimForums where I am reporting on the current OpusFSI development.

The LWE will now decode any high level cloud definitions, with the exception to cirrus cloud, appended within the RMK (Remarks) section of the METAR. All cloud definitions are assumed to be of the form 'nTYPEbbb'. Where 'n' identifies the number of octas of cloud cover, 'TYPE' identifies the cloud type (e.g. AC for Altocumulus), and 'bbb' is the 3 digit height code (height * 100 feet).

BT SERVER PROBLEM

There is a problem on our BT server at present which cannot be resolved until next week. This server problem prevents the LWE from decoding GRIB forecast data.

Please download and upgrade to the latest Release Version 3.46 which overcomes this problem.

OpusFSX Beta Version 3.46.1 is now available for download on our website.

The camera 'Transition Speed' option has been renamed to Transition Time. The camera Transition Time setting can now be set to a maximum of 255. All Transition Speed settings greater than 100 are also scaled to provide a wide range of camera transition times. A 'slowest speed' limit has also been imposed on the actual transition speeds to provide more consistency in the transitions.

These changes should provide far greater flexibility for creating aircraft walk and fly around views.

Beta Updated after 12:00 Zulu ...

This Beta has been updated to include a correction to a problem with handling TrackIR limits during camera transitions, and to prevent further problems with our BT server file access.
