NavDataPro or Navigraph FMS for use with EFB?

Featured Replies

Would like to solicit opinions on these data providers for use with EFB.

Thanks, Rob.

I have used Navigraph for a while now and I have no complaints. The new manager is really speeding up the process, they have good and fast support, and they come up with revisions really fast if need be. Plus, it's a little bit cheaper.

I'm also very happy with Navigraph and the friendly and quick support is exceptional and lightyears ahead of Aerosoft IMO.

Thanks for the input.  I'm really impressed with EFB ... documentation is exceptionally good.

Is anyone running FSGRW?  I'm trying to determine the location of the Data files that EFB wants ... I think it's FSGRW\data\downloads (wx.cwd file)?

Yeah, Aivlasoft EFB is one of my addons I really wouldn't want to be without. I consider it one of the best addons.

The data file for FSGRW is C:\Program Files (x86)\FSGRW\data\exchange\common\current_weather.txt

Perfect, thank you!

Yes, EFB is very nice ... only thing I haven't figured out how to do yet is get the moving map working without having to enter a flight plan, just pickup from where my aircraft is currently positioned in P3D2.  I was able to crash EFB when I tried to load a P3D2 created flight plan (object instance not found error).  Just purchased today so I'm still learning it.

What's a little confusing is there web site shows version 1.5.10.19065 (Display Unit) and mine is 1.5.0.19605 ... I downloaded from their web site today so I should have the latest: http://www.aivlasoft.com/download/index.html - they support forums mentions working on a 1.5.1 but nothing about it being released.

I never use EFB without a flight plan so not sure about that one but did you click on the aircraft icon in the toolbar to center the map on your current position?

As for the versions I haven't thought about that but ask about it over in their support forum. Usually someone will quickly help you out with any questions you might have.

Thanks, you've been a great help.

I'm coming from FS Commander world where a flight plan was not required to have a moving map track your flight ... I would sometimes use FS commander like a GPS running on a separate PC to avoid increasing memory usage in the sim (no GPS) - the things I do for VAS conservation.

Will check in with them, just got "validated" a few minutes ago.

EFB is really designed to be used with a flight plan. I used also to build my flight plans with FSCommander, and then out of the blue it started to build absurd routes, and I didn't like its lack of customization. And then, I discovered PFPX and it changed my life - the absolute ultimate flight planner. Quite expensive, but very worth it. Exports directly to EFB too!

Does EFB work with P3D V2?  It was my understanding they were building a specific P3D update.

EDIT:  Just found out it's been available since XMas.  How did I miss that??

I looked at PFPX, but it has no moving map.  But I'm confused, why do you want two flight planners?

I just got it a day ago, but decision was hinged on P3DV2 compatibility (which I'm finding out it sorta is, but not fully) and moving map/tracking flight.

EFB is not a flight "planner" in itself.  It's a chart/checklist/flight log/map flight bag - the equivalent of which pilots carry on a flight.

PFPX is an A-to-Z flight planner, route builder, fuel calculator, ETOPS calculator program.  It makes a flight briefing package that can easily reach 20 pages and more.  That package, or OFP, is given to pilots by the airline dispatcher prior to a flight.

Thanks for the clarification Max ... so PFPX works with EFB?  Any issues?  I thought all the fuel consumption processing in P3DV2 was broken -- at least it seems broken as I appear to consume much more fuel that I did in FSX even with light winds.

Hi Rob,

Basically you should be asking; "NavDataPro or Navigraph FMS for use with FSX". Both provide a set of files of the same structure making up the AIRAC cycle. There are differences in the exact number of airports, navaids, routes, and airways, but both sets are near enough the same.

What you need to do is make sure to get a file set for all your addons that use add-in navdata when you buy a cycle, so that all your addons operate from the same cycle dataset, i.e. from the same company.
