January 22, 201412 yr Commercial Member Ok, not maybe a flaw, but a stumbling stone. We all know that one of the main advantages of FSX in the power of choice. Hundreds and hundreds of addons, dozens of top quality aircraft, sceneries, etc. I bought few top quality planes in the past two years, PMDG NGX737, Airbus X Extended, Majestic Dash Q400, Twin Otter Extended, A2A C172, A2A B377 + COTS, Aerosoft DA-20 Katana 4X, etc. And I didn't started to talk about sceneries! So with that pretty big choice of aircraft, and the whole planet to explore (landclass + FTXG + FTXG Vector) I'm stuck in a very annoying loop for months now. Every single evening when I have 2-3 hours free for FSX, I simply can't decide what airplane to fly, VFR or IFR + FSCaptain, to fly over Germany or ORBX PNW, or.... argghhhhhhh. And what hurts most of all is that every plane I bought is really amazing, I love to fly them all. So where to start? How to pick one out of the bunch? Mission impossible! I'm a huge fan of aviation and flying, so I equally love VFR (GA) and IFR (Jetliners). So every single evening is a same story, can't decide what and where to fly, so I end 90% of the times tweaking, trying to get rid of DPC latency, or slewing around the world, checking out FTXG Vector (yep, it's amazing addon). The people are right when say that the choice will always slow you down. Keep it simple and you will be happier. Is it just me or it is a global FSX phenomenon? January 22, 201412 yr Well its not me. I grab a plane, setup, takeoff, and sometimes I change two or three planes during the flight just for the fun of it. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
January 22, 201412 yr I kind of know what you are saying. seriously, when I first returned to FSX it was a spending spree. But not everything played nicely together, and many scenery's I purchased in bursts of enthusiasm were places I never really flew after the honeymoon was over. My FSX install became more and more convoluted and complicated until just the thought of a re-install of all of that became enough to break ones heart. Finally enough was enough. I identified the essential things I couldn't live without and did my (Sure.....) final re-install: a just above bare bones FSX that ran the way it was supposed to and looked good besides. Most of the planes are still there, but my interests in Gimme-gimme-gimme purchases died, and my hobby expenditures took a dive that has not risen again. During my time (continuing) with Ms Flight, many fellow fliers commented on the lack of the tons and tons of planes and scenery's available in other sims; but many also added that for the first time, they were stopping to learn the planes they had, and to really explore the scenery that was available instead of jumping from plane to plane and area to area in a blurred rush. Sometimes for a while, at the very least just-to-take-a-break, a little less can be more. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. January 22, 201412 yr I feel for ya, I too bought a bunch of add-ons. Spent $600 on PMDG 777 alone (all the printed material). I have a stable full of expensive aircraft, but I always comeback to the PMDG 737 NGX, 737-700 Winglets to be exact. Almost wish I hadn't spent all that money, could of had a home cockpit by now. I find that to truly enjoy the sim one must stick to one aircraft and attempt to master it. Its kind of like "Jack of all trades and Master of none". I even found myself not just uninstalling aircraft but removing repaints of the few that are left. How about all those airport sceneries we bought and hardly ever fly to or from? Probably should not have done this, but I just went to one of the online sellers I use and added up all my orders from 2003 to present, total 1, 880 Euros. Ric Elmore
January 22, 201412 yr My sim flying is best labeled as fantasy flying. I fly where I would if still flying in real life, and fly as if I had access in real life to the purposely limited add-on aircraft in my fleet. I also normally factor in estimated operating costs. I fly solely GA. For instance this week I will fly a P46T from Bloomington, Indiana, to Goshen, Indiana, with two on board, and from there to Ft Myers, Florida, 4 souls on board, with an overnight stop in Destin, Alabama, as I need a fuel stop between Indiana and Florida. From Ft Myers I will head with a party of 6 and luggage to the Grand Cayman islands with a total of 8 souls on board plus baggage, and will take a Grand Caravan as it accommodates my load and the necessary fuel plus reserve. January 22, 201412 yr And that's why I only fly MV planes! If the forthcoming KingAir 350 is everything it looks like its going to be, I'll be saying that too. Richard P. Kelly
January 22, 201412 yr I understand you, it was the same for me until recently. Now I have found an area I really enjoy flying in, and planes - well I use mainly some GA planes, and I always use one of those I have installed (currently only default + the Carenado C185 and C337), which I try to make some Ezdok configs for while flying. That keeps me pretty occupied for the next months, I guess. And finally, I don't look forward to all the new developments anymore, there are actually only two addons I'd really like to have! If only I had to do less for university... Florian
January 22, 201412 yr Commercial Member I've been flying the T7 almost exclusively now for the last few months, I've basically cast away the AXE (my only other payware aircraft). Fairly simple for me, it's either Singapore Airlines flights (real and fictional) or AeroLogic Flights. Aamir Thacker
January 22, 201412 yr My advice is don't stick to one thing. Mix it up. Fly your Tubes, fly GAs, fly antiques, fly warbirds, fly gliders, fly jet fighters. Fly things you wondn't have thought about flying normally. Fly mainstream airplanes, fly rare exotic planes. Fly real world routes, fly made up completely unrealistic routes. Fly within checkride standards or break every FAA regulation known to man. Do it all Cheers TJ "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley

Lot of you will say "I'll just pick one plane/location and fly!" - easy to say. I'm trying to do that for months but I always end undecided, because I want it all, right now. Do you ever cought yourself in a situation in front of a pastry shop where you can't choose 3 scoops (flavours) of ice cream because you are looking at 20-30 flavours for few minutes because you want to try them all? Or you just shoot "chocolate, vanilla and nuggat"? Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.
January 22, 201412 yr I fly freighters so the PMDG NGX never did much for me. Until the 777F was released I was still flying the PMDG 747X and MD-11X. The only things I buy too often are airport addons that I never fly to. Now that the PMDG 777F is here I am only buying airport and other scenery addons that add to the routes the 777F goes to. The only addon I wish I flew more of is the Majestic Q400.
January 22, 201412 yr I was about to post that FS Captain (you mentioned it in your OP) can suggest dozens of flights out of a single airport and, FS Captain will remember your latest landing so, next time you start it, it will begin suggesting flights which depart exactly where you have landed before. Then I realized that 24 suggestions may actually aggravate your "chocolate, vanilla and nuggat" problem!!! What happened to AVSIM
