What is Easiest way to deal with ICAO changes in FSX

Featured Replies

HI

Need some help to understand how to update airport in FSX if the ICAO has changed.

I don't want to go down ADE route too much hard work, but I would get latest AFCAD online instead.

I can handle instructions to replace fsx airport if ICAO is the same, readme from AFCAD help suffice for that.

But in the case where the airport ICAO has changed from the new AFCAD I want to replace with. How to do this installation

, I suppose involves an easy way to delete old airport ICAO etc.

I am looking for the easiest no hassle way to do this. So I would lift AFCAD from web to replace any I find does not match PMDG fmc. But never found out how to deal with situation where the ICAO has changed.

Also I have Mytraffic 5.4b which adds a load of airport updates of its own, won't mind simple solution to this  airport ICAO change.

cheers

You can search for an updated AFCAD in the library. It is usually a 2 to 3 file copy and paste and "All" our library uploads have installation instructions.

Once you do one and see how easy it is you usually get hooked. :P

The only way to get rid of an ICAO is to modify the default AFX file containing the airport.  The easiest alternative is to install 2 "AFCAD" files, one that removes all the code from the obsolete ICAO, and a second that replaces it all with the new ICAO.  The old ICAO will still exist in FSX but shouldn't be a problem, except maybe a couple things like markers can't be deleted.

Actually I suspect the easiest way is to edit the navdata in your PMDG or other external data source to match FSX ICAO.

Thanks for the detailed explanation very helpfull

1. After seeing a freeware airport that looks quite nice in AVSIM, I have warmed to idea of updating airports.

2. I am modifying freeware AFCAD from AVSIM with old ICAO using ADE, just updating to new ICAO name , and airport name etc, not touching anything else runways etc.

3. However using ADE, do I just delete everything inside the default AFCAD and save it back.

Currently I have not done this, so as not to break anything. Does that mean I currently have 2 airports on the same landmass in FSX with double runways etc.

cheers
