RTWR 2014 Early Release of the White List

Featured Replies

For the 2014 RTWR, an Early Release of the White List is available from a Dropbox account here.

Why was the Milviz F-86 is not included on the white list for the Saber flights?

Since I already have it, I would like to be able to use it.

Looks like it will be a fun year, and as requested by some, quicker.

While no big deal as there are so many options. Why is one of the best modeled maddog's is not included -

http://www.flythemaddog.com/  (One of my absolute favorite pressurized aluminum tubes)

[REFERENCE SPEEDS]flaps_up_stall_speed   = 130.000
full_flaps_stall_speed = 110.000
cruise_speed           = 467.000
max_indicated_speed    = 350
max_mach               = 0.84

And one other question -

Transonic Cold War Jets. This class of aircraft is NOT a regular feature of the 2014 Race. However, you will get a chance to fly one leg in a 1950s transonic jet (sub-sonic in level flight).

I am assuming the white list for this is not made yet. Or as long as it fits into that criteria it is considered legal?  Thinking SAAB Barrel (Unmodified) LOL!!   :ph34r:

Excellent! Looking forward to the rest of the rules as always to see what the committee has up their sleeves!  :lol:

Time to get that Section8 manual out and give it a good read again.

Jeff,

Have you been able to install an autopilot?  I've been able to couple the RealityXP WAAS, but the altitude hold won't work due to customized coding for trim that the developer used.  It will hold a gps nav track OK, but the pilot has to manage altitude manually.

Other than that, I'm with you.  It may be my imagination, but I think the Milviz Sabre is just a little more forgiving in the pattern.  The performance numbers experienced don't seem that unreasonable either.

Craig,

If the Milviz is anything like the Section8 you will not be able to add outside altitude control without removing the stock AP and maybe a dedicated logic gauge. Not getting too technical, here's how it works in the Section8.

-The instant the AP is turned on in a Alt mode the current altitude is fed into the FS AltHold variable.

- Once V/S select is selected for descent, 0 feet gets sent to the FS AltHold variable and the currently selected V/S gets sent to the FS V/S variable.

- Once V/S select is selected for climb 99900 feet gets sent to the FS AltHold variable and the currently selected V/S gets sent to the FS V/S variable.

- Once V/S is selected to zero, the current altitude is sent to the FS AltHold variable.

Again in the Section8, they did an excellent job of forcing the variable(s), meaning, if the variable(s) don't match what the pilot selected and/or logic it will force them. Adding a dedicated AP to the bird will work as long as no vertical mode is used. Using a vertical mode will drive the AP logic crazy and even worse will send flooding commands over the multiplayer server.(NOT GOOD, FSX only)

It is modelled beautifully how it should work.

Just 2 cents :-)

Craig,

I added an autopilot and Reality XP WAAS GPS to my Milviz Saber.  It works just as you describle.  With autopilot on, it will track course but not altitude or vertical speed.  Manual trim is the only way to manage altitude. I am actually OK with this.  Sounds like the Section 8 autopilot has similar limited vertical mode functionality.

The AP allows a max climb rate of 3000fps... works fine to "set it and forget it" until reaching cruise altitude and then switch to Alt/Nav..

I've got a second AP in the Section8... but use it just for monitoring purposes.

Roman,

Good explanation of the Section8.  The Miviz Sabre doesn't come with an AP at all.  It's old-school stick and rudder all the way.  According to responses from the developer to queries about adding an autopilot, he apparently created an API that takes over the native FS trim function, which is used by the autopilot to control VS and alt hold - presumably to add realism for the "flying tail" that made the Sabre stand out from comparable fighters of its time.  This custom API allows one to alter the trim sensitivity at the expense of adding/using an alt hold functionality.

Jeff, I'm with you.  It's not that big a deal to adjust vertical trim to hold an altitude manually.  Automated course management is more important to me for long legs and real weather.

So, if Section8 is the only game in town - I've had it installed for some time in FSX already, with all the fixes.  I guess I should delete and install the new package?

I just this morning compared the files from my assembly... same dates.   Either way I think you're ok.

But you will have to wrestle away from me the 'MiG Mad Marine' repaint. :Big Grin:

Rob, I would rather use a faux FJ-4 skin of some sort anyway, if I can find one, so you're welcome to it.  :hi:

Yes. It is the same package, no worries if you have it already installed "properly" and un-modified. The good thing is if that the "Aircraft Title" matches everyone else the multiplayer will show up correctly. The provided packages via the private links are "pre-assembled" for ease of installation and are not meant for public distribution via the EULA.

Cool! , will have to discuss this with the gauge programming nerd :blink:  that did this. I  know him, and what happens with dealing with stuff is exactly how that smiley face looks like.

Again 2 cents, What happens with most, not all, developers is this. They use the standard issue FS autopilot API but use "background logic" to take away the internal logic, and use as necessary, make the AP work like it should. MS did a good job on providing the status and commands to do this.  An  example is the F-111 that I have been working on for 2+ years. Terrain following radar, switch logic vs. mode vs. pilot input , vs  system availability all are incorporated via a logic gauge with over 600 lines of code. The code does no more than control the internals of a "172" autopilot.

There is no way to add an external AP commanding program/gauge/gps. Fly it how it should be or not at all.

Can I have one too? And, will make sure that the brakes are failed while flying it. JK.

Nice pics, Roman!  I wish someone would build a bonafide FJ-3/4 for FSX.  There were rumors that VS was building one, but nothing ever materialized.  SectionF8 was also rumored, but ditto for them, too.  I found two paints for Marine squadrons on Flightsim, so might go with one of those.  Unfortunately they weren't optimized for FSX.  I was able to fiddle with the files to clear the canopy/instrument visibility issues often found with port-overs, but can't seem to make the underwing tanks appear.  If I can't sort it by race day, I'll fly "Patricia II," which has a nice skull-n-crossbones on the side.  If I can't go Marine, I'll go pirate!  :Big Grin:

Hi Craig,

Here is a "fake" FJ-3 in the colors of VMF-232 Red Devils by Mike Puckett. The textures are converted to DDS for FSX. Should work ok. (Fine on my machine. Let us know about yours.)

You can download the converted repaint from my Dropbox account here.

Marines!

Hope this helps.,

Mike

Mike,

Thank you for this!  I managed to get Puckett's VMF-235 paint sorted, but one can never have enough Marine skins!  Maybe Rob can use this if he decides he doesn't want to fly in "zoomie" colors.  :lol:

I'd really love to have one of the Navy's gloss sea blue schemes to round out the collection.  I may have to take up painting myself to get one, though.
