February 6, 201412 yr No one can tell me the default AI and ATC in FSX was any good. [...] Give it time No one actually said that the default AI and ATC in FSX is of any good - but: But this does not mean that it can't be done better in XPlane. And i am sure that everyone here gives Laminar all the time needed to let XPlane evolve, but as time is something relative and with version 10.30 at least somewhere on the horizon, it is just obvious and natural, that people will continuously ask for various features to be improved or implemented. As long as this is all communicated in a kind and appropriate manner though, just as it is definitely the case here, it's perfectly fine i think - and so is the discussion that comes along with it then! :smile2: Sure, I'll post some pics and my settings later today! Sounds great! Thank You very much in advance! Certainly going to take a look at them! Enjoy flying and happy landings.
February 6, 201412 yr At least in FSX the default traffic is a lot more plausible than in X-Plane. There is enough attention given to avoid weird encounters, like those we get in X-Plane 10. ATC is not good, but it is also certainly better than default ATC in X-plane 10. Finally, just like most things in FSX's World, if you add the right stuff to it, it'll get way better .... Unfortunately there aren't yet any good alternatives for either AI or ATC in X-plane 10, other than going online with VATSIM or some payed service - something I am not willing to spend my money / time with.... Flight Gear's AI is also way better / more plausible than X-Plane's... and it's a FREE simulator! Let's hope for better ATC and AI in X-Plane 10, if not by default, at least in the form of some nice add-ons... Even Flight Unlimited had an excellent ATC, and AI, and that was back in 1999/2000 :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
February 6, 201412 yr So, here are some pics with the new tweaks. I decided to post a variety of shots from different flights, since the weather on the flight mentioned above, wasn´t good and therefore cloud shadows and the nice blueish atmosphere effect wasn´t too accentuated. My current settings are: clouds/cloud_shadow_lighten_ratio = 0.8700000 atmo/atmo_scale_raleigh = 25.00000 atmo/inscatter_gain_mie = 3.000000 atmo/inscatter_gain_raleigh = 3.000000 atmo/scatter_raleigh_b = 30.64000000
February 6, 201412 yr I'd also like to remind everyone that for FSX addon ai packages are just simply custom ai plane objects and textures + ai flight schedules. The system exists already by microsoft, but to define real-world AI you just need the airplane objects + schedule, which is what the ai packs do. Now X-plane AI configures full, real flyable planes for AI so simple airplane library objects wont work. AI planes need full flight models to fly in the current system, so their amount is limited because it eats performance. These custom, real-world ai packages therefore need to build a whole new system to make ai planes as library objects that just follow the real world schedule without actually having to compute the flying involved. I believe that's what the World Traffic plugin did, but no real-world traffic schedules yet. I believe that is in the making as well as "random generator" so I'd place my bets on seeing that fullfill the FSX-like real-world based traffic in X-plane.

"How much detail and accuracy is acceptable?" Where's the line? Even Radar Contact and Ultimate Traffic aren't flawless, and they're dedicated payware. Then there's the issue of updated timetables. Keep in mind, what Aces did was with a team of exactly 283 people. Laminar is nowhere near that size. Maybe I'm just more tolerant than many other people. I still say there's no substitute for Vatsim and human interaction. I've met a lot of good people on there.
February 6, 201412 yr Then we get into details about "When is it enough?" "How much detail and accuracy is acceptable?" Where's the line? This questions may arise ... But i firmly believe that most people are aware of the fact that all of this is still just "a sim", which can only try to become "as real as it gets", but never fully "replace" reality. So making some compromises will always be mandatory but certainly accepted as long as these compromises still offer a "plausible" simulation of real world procedures - within any flightsim. I therefore still consider asking for proper ATC, AI or whatever to improve - any - flightsim's user experience to be a valid point and - at least sometimes - even an important thing to do, to gain progress and/or keep things moving forward. And some good conversations and discussions every now and then make it all even more interesting i think. I still say there's no substitute for Vatsim and human interaction I fully second that. But as pointed out above also in the first post - flying online may not be possible for everyone. So, here are some pics with the new tweaks. Thank You very much for sharing them - and also Your settings here! Enjoy flying and happy landings.
February 6, 201412 yr Commercial Member It's ok to ask for features, but I find it strange when I see people come in here and start complaining about the lack of good AI and ATC and then say "I'm going back to FSX until LR implement good AI and ATC or until PMDG start developing for X-Plane." (Sorry, I couldn't resist that last bit. I always chuckle when I see posts like that.)
February 6, 201412 yr I posted a few screenshots of my just ended flight from EDDP to LIME in the screenshot forum. The weather was quite nice and therefore, the atmospheric effect can be seen much better!

I always chuckle when I see posts like that.) Sure - i can understand ... but - if i have not overseen or missed something - so far nobody said to do go back to FSX due to missing features in XPlane here in this thread :wink2: But indeed: It is said so from time to time I posted a few screenshots of my just ended flight from EDDP to LIME in the screenshot forum. The weather was quite nice and therefore, the atmospheric effect can be seen much better! Going to check them out right away - thank You very much again for sharing! ... and then i'll have to go back to bed as i caught some cold recently  - but even greater and more appreciated to be able to enjoy some super screenies here at the forums - and some interesting discussions in between! Enjoy flying and happy landings.
February 6, 201412 yr I have the DataRefEditor and would be interested in trying them out Could you kindly provide a link? May be an entry in the tools section elsewhere in this forum? (Sorry, I couldn't resist that last bit. I always chuckle when I see posts like that.) Well, this was not the case for my post. I have no more FSX installed in my HD, I could fly GA for the rest of my life, it's just that without a decent ATC and AI I feel little motivation to move to liners. But could be a an old legacy of what I was used in FSX. And since many come to XP after FSX I feel is quite a common issue. If LR could address this matter I think we would have many more XPlaners.
