Trying to get real weather with Airhauler/Ideal Flight

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I"ve been playing Airhauler with Ideal Flight.. I'd like to try and figure out how to get real weather..

AirHauler's real weather option has never worked for me..

Ideal Flight, I clicked the METAR check box, and it just seemed to do Thunderstorms every time.. this is cool at first, but I'd like some variety.

I have Rex 2.0.. but if I"m not starting FSX with that (due to the fact that IF10 is where FSX gets started). So in this scenario, if I start Rex somewhere in the mix, but don't 'launch' FSX with REX.. will Rex still provide real-time weather?

I hear everyone recommend Active Sky, but really running up the Credit Card with all these add-ons, so would rather not have to spend another 50 bucks to get some real weather...

Any help would be appreciated.

Airhauler will not inject wx into fsx. It is only for informational purposes in planning your flight.

Ideal flight will inject random wx per the settings on the wx tab in the program.

If you want real wx you will need to use fsx built in wx or purchase one of the many wx programs available.

OK.. I"ll have to look at Ideal a little closer then.. I don't care as much if it's real, but just that it changes...

With Rex.. I didn't know if it was injecting if that lil Radar box isn't up. Of course that only starts up, if you start FSX with Rex, which I don't want to do since i"m using IF10

Hi, The METAR setting is for you to supply your own file of METARS for the trip, the example only has a thunderstorm, more in the help.

Ideal Flight is fictional weather, but for real world weather, I would set Ideal Flight weather options off and use Opus, AS, REX, FSGRW, etc. However I would keep the superior IF10 thermals and ridge lift engine settings and turn similar functions off in the RWW engine.

A note about IF10 fictional weather; it's the same weather at the same location on the same day and time. I say that because I had an enquiry about the weather always the same, but it turned out the flights were all generated from the same departure for the same time and day.

If you set REX up to start with FSX, than when you start FSX alone or with IF10 the REX weather will be present, Assuming you turned off IF10 weather else the two will inject weather together. Remember that FSX can already be running when you launch an IF10 flight.

All the best.

Is there a way to download a real world METAR and replace the IF10 one with it?

Yes that's what the METAR file is for. It's an .ini file with an entry for each 20 minutes of the flight. Using notepad or a text editor paste in a METAR for each line in the file. There is also a detination keyword to ensure the program understands the destination weather.

from the example file found in

C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles

[Metars]

0=27004G09KT 12SM +SHRA BKN055CB 30/17 A2974

Destination=27004G09KT 12SM +SHRA BKN055CB 30/17 A2974

So you would enter a METAR after 0=. Then you would introduce a new line, 1=<metar line>, 2=<metar line>, etc.

REX has a setting that makes it come on when FSX is started up, I would set that up. and start FSX to see if REX runs. If that's working OK uncheck the weather item in IF10 and start flights with IF10/AH as usual.

I use Active sky Next with Ideal flight. With active flight set to real weather and the weather engine switched off in Ideal flight. it works very well so far. But as long as weather in ideal Flight turned Off you could use fsx own live weather or any other 3rd party weather engine i presume. So even if you make the same flight again in Ideal flight weather will be different each time.

IF10 has a setting at the top of the Flight Gen page which makes the flight start at the time of day of your system, irrespective of the time chosen for the flight in the briefing. This way whenever the flight is made, it is recorded at that real time of day and the weather from the RWW engine is injected also from that time of day.

OK, what I did was changed Rex, so that it doesn't Launch FSX automatically. So now when I click Fly Now in REX.. the Radar box comes up, but it doesn't start up FSX.. That way I can start FSX with IF10. I think it worked, the weather was clear, but there was strong winds, so I don't think it was 'default' weather.. Hoping this is it!

Yes that should work well! :smile:
