FSX keeps crashing Help!

Recommended Posts

FSX keeps crashing every time i tried to play a flight video. It takes a long time to load and when it gets to around 83% loading time FSX crashes and I get this
"Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

FSX crashed in window or full screen, this problem is delaying me from making fsx videos. I get this same error practically every day and noting i did seams to be working. Windows never notified me of any "solution". I have Windows 8(8.1) , what is the problem that keeps crashing FSX is it my graphics card, my terrible Intel processor, is it 64 bit? is it Windows 8 it self?

Hear are my computer specs
Inspiron 15
Windows 8.1 64 bit
1 Intel Celeron CPU 1007U @ 1.50Ghz
1 Intel HD Graphics 2500 or Intel HD Graphics
RAM 4.00 GB (3.87 usable)

Well to start I'm not much into making video's, but looking at your CPU which operates at 1.50ghz and is a Celeron, I can see this being a huge problem already for FSX. Based on your other specs, I take it you are using a laptop with the built in graphics card?...First question I have for you is, (1) How does FSX operate with your specs..i.e, fps with and without other ad-dons, scenerie's, weather programs etc etc. and (2) Are you using FSX internal video creator or something else like 'FSrecoder'? (3) Has it ever worked for you before? (4) If so, then try rebuilding your FSX.cfg file again and start over. However, given your specs, I'm a bit Pessimistic any of this might work out for you, but I hope you can prove me wrong.

OK so is this the same laptop with a windows 8 upgrade or a completely new one? If no, then what are the spec differences between your win7 and win8 laptop?

NOTE:The only reason you would want to rebuild your fsx.cfg is if you are having problems with the application when it did work before on THIS SAME  PC. Corrupted files, hardware or added software are other factors that can cause FSX to crash.

To rebuld fsx.cfg, go to: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX and locate fsx.cfg. If you are not able to see anything pass Users or Username then you may have to enable hidden folders and maybe even extensions. I don't know how to do this in win8 but from win7 goto: My computer, select C: local disk, press the Alt key on keyboard and this should bring up (File. Edit. View.Tools Help). Select Tools, folder options, view. Look below at Advanced settings and  locate Hidden Files and Folders and select it to extend the tree. Press the radio button that says - Show hidden Files, folders and Drives. Scroll down further and uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'. select Apply and OK. Now locate your fsx.cfg file as I indicated earlier.

Just one other point....Research tells me that FSX runs fine on Windows 8, and in some cases better than windows 7. However because of YOUR specs you may run into additional problems when asking windows to perform multiple task at the same time. Please see below for Windows Minimum requirements.

If fsx stops loading at 83% it means something regarding AI is not loading properly.  The AVSIM CTD Guide (see pinned topic in this forum) provides some advice regarding troubleshooting FSX crashes and has some solutions.  You should run AppCrashView (see page 1 of the AVSIM CTD Guide) and copy and paste the crash report here if the solutions offered by others above were not successful.
