New install of Windows 8 on new SSD- how do I set boot order in BIOS?

Recommended Posts

I have Windows 8 installed, my BIOS boots to my DVD drive (first preference) and the HDD that my Windows 8 is next. (I have other HDD's that are not on my boot order list in BIOS).

I am going to install a clean instance of Windows 8 on a new SSD. Do I need to set my boot list in BIOS to boot to the new drive before installing the OS, or if I keep my BIOS boot list unchanged does installing reset it to point to the new drive- or will the PC want to set up a multi-boot? What is the best way to address this?

Thanks, Bruce.

The safest way to avoid problems is to disconnect all but the new SSD before

attempting to install Windows 8 onto it.

Ideally, plug it into the same connection as your current Windows 8 HDD.

If it is possible, once you have the SSD installation working it will be best to remove all traces of Windows 8 from your present system HDD, ideally by formatting the disc.
