February 12, 201412 yr I have Windows 8 installed, my BIOS boots to my DVD drive (first preference) and the HDD that my Windows 8 is next. (I have other HDD's that are not on my boot order list in BIOS). I am going to install a clean instance of Windows 8 on a new SSD. Do I need to set my boot list in BIOS to boot to the new drive before installing the OS, or if I keep my BIOS boot list unchanged does installing reset it to point to the new drive- or will the PC want to set up a multi-boot? What is the best way to address this? Thanks, Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
February 12, 201412 yr The safest way to avoid problems is to disconnect all but the new SSD before attempting to install Windows 8 onto it. Ideally, plug it into the same connection as your current Windows 8 HDD. If it is possible, once you have the SSD installation working it will be best to remove all traces of Windows 8 from your present system HDD, ideally by formatting the disc.
