Tokyo Haneda Closed on 15th Feb Due Heavy Snow

Featured Replies

It is unusual for Tokyo to have so much snow.

In the last two weeks the amount of snow really clogged up Tokyo's roads with an even heavier snowfall on Feb 15th.

I was quite amazed as it was snowing at 5cm an hour!

First things in Japan to go were domestic services as other airports were also snowed under, like Sapporo.

International flights were next when the equipment was not able to handle the amounts of snow. I have never seen this much snow in my life.

Wow, 2 feet of snow in Tokyo, if my math is correct, almost 4 feet in the mountains,  2 feet of snow in NY, the US South under snow and ice, the UK is getting absolutely pummeled, a lot of the EU under the worst snow in years, this has truly been a brutal winter all around (except Sochi LOL)

Hope everyone makes out ok, I think I read there have been like 76,000 flight cancellations this winter alone in the US!

Crazy!

Have a Wonderful Day

Scandinavia not so lucky for snow, first snow rained in my city in January, now its all melted and temps are above zero Celsius. Way warmer than normal winter.  :(

I lived in Tokyo for 4 years and the biggest snow I recall was 2-3 inches.  I think Tokyo only averages maybe 5-7 inches per year.  Mt Fuji acts as a nice barrier.  It's been a crazy winter everywhere...we have already had double our average snowfall in Indiana and winter's not done yet :(

Too true, Chris! I haven't been able to get my car out of the garage for the past two weeks. All the earliest snow has partially melted, then refrozen into a solid 2" of ice in the alley to which my garage exits. Even though it's been more-or-less indifferently plowed, it remains un-drivable.

I'm running low on consumables and have some appointments on Tuesday that I really need to keep, but I don't have a clue how I'm going to accomplish either goal...  :unknw:

It was pretty boring this winter here across the lake also.

I can wait, thanks though. We will probably get hit with a blizzard around Easter time.

Phoenix hasn't been lucky enough to get anything! Most of our rain comes from January and we got NONE then and NONE now. It hasn't snowed in the rest of AZ since Christmas!!!

I'm ready for our warmup this week to melt some of this junk Father Bill!  52 degrees Thursday according to the Indianapolis channels...my shorts are ready to go lol.  I've heard on the news that parts of the coastline around the great lakes will see cooler temps well into the summer this year due to all the ice up there.  They're something like 90% covered in ice.....unbelieveable.

Going down to 8 degrees fahrenheit here tonight, almost 55+ inches of snow already this winter... the snow is piled almost 2 stories high around our houses....can't wait until spring!

Indeed, not much snow around here at the moment, it's getting boring really. I feel proper amount of snow is necessary to make the winter appear less dark in these latitudes. +3C / 37F outside at the moment...

I wish we would get a proper snowstorm some week now.
