FSX Install path (Program Files (x86))

Recommended Posts

Just out of interest my fsx  was installed by my PC supplier  to a separate drive

E:\Program Files (x86)\

UAC is turned off and everything is installed as Administrator.

I read many posts saying to avoid installing to

C:\Program Files (x86)\

As this can cause issues as Program Files (x86)\ is a protected area of windows

As my path is actually E:\Program Files (x86)\    ( my PC also has a C:\Program Files (x86)\ )

am I avoiding these potential problems or  does E have the same restrictions as C and it sthe name “Program Files (x86)” that causes  problems?

I fortunately don’t have a particular issue at present (  did I really dare say that!!)  but in the event of a reinstall in the future just want to be prepared to change it if necessary. (although I do image my disk now and again as a back up to an external USB!)

Any info appreciated

No only C:\Program Files (x86)\ has restrictions on it. your PC supplier was wise

He could have just as easily installed it to E:\FSX and it would have the same affect...

...which is to say none at all. There is an "urban myth" around that claims that 32bit programs (such as FS or P3D) must be installed to the x86 folder in order for the OS to run them in the WoW64 mode. This is not true. The OS will handle this process irrespective of where the application's .exe file is located.
