Help to tune up my system

Recommended Posts

Ok GREAT you are close then!

Sure, I will see what we can come up with!

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7sxevg36m00fv0k/KN2BPqyam2/Vertex%20%26%20Index%20Buffers.doc

Jose did you give this a good read?

Also given the link I posted.  Paul explains the testing process for Bufferpools.

Maybe you don't need one.  But if you do, you want to establish a good TBM.

Simply stated.  TBM is like a throttle.  My Graphics Card can only handle 85 to 100 TBM.  Your GPU (Graphics Card) should handle more.

The HIGHER the TBM the more stutters you will get, the lower TBM the more smooth your frames become.  That is where Bufferpools come in handy.

Now, Bufferpools simply allows you to SPLIT the FSX rendering between the CPU and the GPU but finding that (sweet spot) takes a while.  So it is important to experiment with your TBM then Bufferpools.

What I did was to use a moderate Bufferpools with a moderate Reject Threshold.  (Middle Settings)

Then I ran the same test flight with my sliders set to MAX.  Over and Over to see how things work.  Again like I stated above.  Max Aircraft (PMDG, etc) Max Scenery etc)

I then increased my TBM until I saw stutters.  Given all else the same.

THEN I increased my RT FIRST to see if that helped the stutters.  If it did, I increased to max RT.  If that was stutter free I then upped the BP to the next level with the MIN level RT.  If that was stutter free, I upped TBM +5  (85 to 90) and so on.

Here is where I stand on MY PC

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80

[bUFFERPOOLS]
UsePools=1
PoolSize=5242880
RejectThreshold=786432

For my machine, I could push a little more but the "law of diminishing returns" now is starting to take effect.

This is it for my machine.  All she can do.

My next EDIT is going to be a new Flight Sim System with Prepared3D  LOL

Respectfully,

Jet

Tomorrow I'll test to remove the Fiber Frame Fraction line from the cfg and experiment with BP

Can you please tell me that meant this?

"To control any spiking, lowering of the IQ sliders in FSX is the best course of action."

What is the IQ sliders?

Max Aeronaves ( PMDG , etc) Max Paisaje etc)

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT = 80

[ BUFFERPOOLS ]
UsePools = 1
PoolSize = 5242880
RejectThreshold = 786432

Testing testing and more testing....

Now i have a more SMOOOOOOTH FSX!!!

With BP=0, FFTF=0.15, LOD=6.5 TBM=120

FPS limited to 30 in Inspector, 1/2 Refresh rate vsync, and the MAGIC option for my system...

In Nvidia Inspector... MAXIMUM PRE RENDERED FRAMES set to 1 (not to 3)

EDITED: With these settings, i think all the mirco stutters in ground has gone. But remains a little more (more big stutters).... Not very big but noticeable.

Also noticed that i had 32bit textures selected in REX4. Selected DXT5 and DXT1 now! Seems better performance.

Testing now with more high values at MAXIMUM PRE RENDERED FRAMES in NI to 8.

Conclusion at this point is that now i have a very very smooth and good performance FSX, it's very good to fly. But with some little stutter (i'll continue testing). Micro stutters has gone...

Still testing... any sugerence?

Arggg FSX is very frustrating for a perfectionist person like me. Developers run to X-Plane!

Micro stutters has gone but some stutter still present... Testing with all the RT but I think it is better with BP=0

I don't know what to do now... Fsx is a sim to tune, not a sim to fly and enjoy...

Siempre he tenido esa línea en mi cfg. He probado con 0.1 y 0.15. Voy a probar con 0.2

Always have this line in the cfg like the guide says. I tested 0.1 and 0.15 with no noticeable different. I'll test 0.2

Hi Jose, I gave up, very sadly, on DX10. I simply could not get it to function properly. While it looked nicer than FSX, no matter what I did, I simply couldn't get BP to work, so straight away the performance was worse. In addition, I found running with two monitors of different size and resolution meant DX10 returned a very stuttery experience. For some reason, unlike DX9, it doesn't like this type of monitor setup. So I ended up flying with a single monitor and sacrificing the immersion that is offered when flying with a second monitor for all my instruments and alike. I did this for a week, but missed my second monitor so much I returned to DX9, which incidentally, for me, is faaar smoother. I hope my experience may be useful to you Jose. BTW are you running a single monitor?

I think it is very good now... Only having a few stutters with heavy scenery and aircraft (UK2000 EGLL v3 and NGX with ASN cloudy)

For example in Aerosoft LEPA with NGX and ASN i don't see stutters, or they are unnoticeable.

Do you think my in-fsx sliders are good for my system?

Hmm, you have a pretty high end system, so for me personally, as you have a very similar system as myself, it's unacceptable to have any stutters except perhaps when frames drop really low. FWIW here are my FSX settings, from what I can remember. Apologies if I'm stating the obvious.

Ground shadows: Off

Aircraft casts shadow on the ground: Off (little impact in DX10)

Aircraft casts shadows on itself: Off (little impact in DX10)

Lens flare: Off (Little impact in DX10)

Bloom: Off (Little impact in DX10)

AI: never more than 25% with GA, when flying with GA and vice versa when flying airliners

Airport traffic: Off

Road traffic: 10%

Ships and Ferries: 5%

Cloud draw distance: 70km

Cloud coverage: Medium

Water: Low 2x

Scenery complexity: One notch down from top

Autogen: Normal when flying NGX and Dense - Very dense when flying GA, although changes depending on scenery whether urban or bush flying

I had water at Med.2x...now i lower it to Low.2x

I have 8xCSAA in the Fixer and 4xSGSS at NI. Do you think it is so much to my GTX770? Can i select more in the fixer and less (2xSGSS) in NI? Or it's not correct?

Jose, as I understand things, the AA setting in the fixer should match the SGSS in Inspector, so leave NI where it is and set the fixer at 4x. Have you read Paul (PJ) Johnson's DX manual on setting up DX10? Apologies if you've already mentioned this, but tick AA on, and filtering set to Anisotropic in FSX.

Yes! It says that for 8xCSAA the value in NI is 4SGSS

OK, well that goes against everything I understand to be the case, but if that what Paul says then it must be fine. One thing I will say though, when I ran at 8xCSAA in the fixer, I experienced awful performance in cloud, so I would suggest you try it, just for testing.
