Editing Atmospheric Appearance in X-Plane 10

Recommended Posts

Before you try anything, you're going to need this handy plugin: http://www.xsquawkbox.net/xpsdk/mediawiki/DataRefEditor
The figures that I show are only guidelines. Really, it comes down to personal preference and experimentation  ;)
These tweaks only work with HDR on.
Also, the reason I've taken a screenshot for every dataref change is so that you can compare and see the difference that each one makes.
Note: These setting will reset to default when you close X-Plane. Go to this thread to find out how to keep the settings http://forum.avsim.n...igh-scattering/

Side note:

If you click the dark bar at the bottom of the dref editor windows you can type in a string to filter your results with.

In this case: type in atmo/ and the list results will show only the datarefs that you're interested in tweaking.

First, open up the "Art Controls" in XP.

You'll get this confusing window of green writing. Scroll down to where you see these four entries:

For dramatisation I've changed this entry to 53

But for realism, try an entry like 28.
Also, change the entry below to 8.

Change the next one to 8 aswell. Note the way the haze is more visible.

Now this is where the color comes in. Change "scatter_raleigh_b" from anywhere between 50 and 200!
I think around 80 looks acceptable and modest. Note how the mountains look slightly bluer in the back.

Doesn't it look a lot better ;)

Amazing results! are these images with HDR on?

Hi Alexander.

I failed to mention that these tweaks only work with HDR.

So yeh, it's with HDR ;)

Thanks for that Ben!

I've added that to the original post.
