Pretty Awesome add on scenery

Hello,I also had a problem with Megascenery degrading over time, I don't know why. I tried all the tips and it still didn't look as good as when I first installed it. I like the concept of Megascenery and the detail, but if that's what happens over time, count me out. No matter how slow I went, the textures just loaded nowhere like they did in the beginning. My system wasn't exactly a slouch either.I haven't simmed in FS2004/FS9 for almost a year now but I still visit the forum. I decided to take a hiatus when I found myself spending too much time "tweaking" and watching FPS and not enough flying. When FS2006 makes its' debut, I'll rekindle my passion. I just got a new PC and I can't wait to load the new version on there. Looks like lots of good stuff coming down the line.Sincerely,Hans Groenewold

Since Megascenery contains hundreds of thousands of tiny ~43KB files(21GB, 542,947 files for my installed photo sceneries!) it's very prone to fragmentation. I recommend to keep the Megascenery files on their own partition otherwise defragging other partitions takes forever. Also the WinXP built-in defragger is nowhere near good enough to handle the extreme amount of files. Finally framerate must be set to Unlimited in FS9, visiblity at 30 miles or less, extended terrain textures turned Off.
