Anyone got "Altitude Callouts" to work?

Recommended Posts

The instructions for install are pretty brief. I can't see anything that I missed doing that was mentioned. Put 9 wav files in the sound directory. Put the gauge file in the gauges folder. Modify each Panel.cfg file that I want callouts to work with. I copied the sample line into panel.cfg like this: (it's the last line: gauge58)---[Window00]file=747_Background_640.bmpfile_1024=747_Background_1024.bmpsize_mm=640position=7visible=1ident=MAIN_PANELgauge00=Boeing747-400!Nav-GPS Switch, 212, 98gauge01=Boeing747-400!Nav Display Switch, 264, 98gauge02=Boeing747-400!Primary Flight Display Switch, 158, 98gauge03=Boeing747-400!EICAS Display Switch, 469, 98gauge04=Boeing747-400!Standby Attitude Indicator, 349, 88gauge05=Boeing747-400!Standby Airspeed Indicator, 348, 168gauge06=Boeing747-400!Standby Altimeter, 348, 248gauge07=Boeing747-400!Autobrakes Switch, 521, 90gauge08=Boeing747-400!Gear Lever, 603, 87gauge09=Boeing747-400!Autothrottle Switch, 275, 19gauge10=Boeing747-400!Flight Director Switch, 275, 49gauge11=Boeing747-400!Primary Flight Display, 1, 126gauge12=Boeing747-400!Multi-Function Display, 175, 126gauge13=Boeing747-400!EICAS Display, 443, 145gauge14=Boeing747-400!Chronograph Switch, 0, 56gauge30=Boeing747-400!Autopilot IAS-Mach Switch, 295, 21gauge31=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Speed Switch, 295, 46gauge32=Boeing747-400!Autopilot IAS-Mach Selector, 329, 44gauge33=Boeing747-400!Autopilot IAS-Mach Window, 321, 26gauge34=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Nav Switch, 363, 18gauge35=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Hdg Switch, 363, 43gauge36=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Heading Selector, 385, 40gauge37=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Heading Window, 391, 26gauge38=Boeing747-400!Autopilot VS Switch, 454, 43gauge39=Boeing747-400!Autopilot VS Selector, 498, 23gauge40=Boeing747-400!Autopilot VS Window, 446, 26gauge41=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Altitude Selector, 531, 42gauge42=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Altitude Hold Switch, 561, 42gauge43=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Altitude Window, 533, 26gauge44=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Localizer Switch, 587, 20gauge45=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Approach Switch, 587, 45gauge46=Boeing747-400!Autopilot Master Switch, 615, 36gauge47=Boeing747-400!Master Warning Light, 220, 25gauge50=SimIcons!Clock Icon, 16, 111gauge51=SimIcons!Kneeboard Icon, 30, 111gauge52=SimIcons!ATC Icon, 44, 111gauge53=SimIcons!Overhead Icon, 114, 111gauge54=SimIcons!ECU Icon, 100, 111gauge55=SimIcons!Map Icon, 58, 111gauge56=SimIcons!Avionics Icon, 72, 111gauge57=SimIcons!GPS Icon, 86, 111gauge58=FPDA_Boeing_Callout, 10, 100---I saved the file, opened FS9, took off in the 747-400, came in for a landing and no callout of altitude. Is there something I've got to activate inside the cockpit? Can't see any new gauge. I doubleclicked the wav files in the Gauges directory and I can hear the various altitudes repeated over and over.

Hi Dave,About all I can do is give you some moral support. I checked my wave and gauge locations and they're identical to yours. The listing you show from the panel.cfg is correct. The only difference is that the callouts work just fine for me.I'll sleep on this one and get back to you if I think of anything that we've missed.Regards,JerryH

Jerry, I closed FS9 and reselected the 747. I flew it again and as soon as it lifted off I heard "20". I landed it and heard call outs! The first time it flew I was in cockpit mode and heard nothing. I was thinking there was a key I had to press or a button to push, but I've since reset the flight about 5 times and it works. I placed the plane at the Denver airport on final and flew it in. I got call outs. What can I say? Now if I could get it to work in a VC. That's not possible is it?Dave

Dave,Glad you got it working. It occured to me that maybe you hadn't restarted FS. That step isn't obvious to most of us when we first get brave enough to edit the .cfg files, etc.The VC installation seems easy, so I obviously don't understand the problem. Couldn't you simply add the FPDA_Boeing_Callout gauge to the list of gauges in the VC. It's in a separate window; my default B747 VC is named (VCockpit01).Good luck,JerryH

Assign those two items to some unused key sequence in your installation and you'll be able to edit and seethe results a bit quicker. I use " CTRL + ' " and " CTRL + ; " for those functions. One thing I have observed is that occasionally it takes two or three key-stroke presses before the new .cfg file is loaded. I don't know why that is but it still saves alot of time, especially if your installation is as B L O A T E D as mine with all sorts of add-on scenery, AI aircraft and over 400 aircraft in my inventory! That's a great tip, Paul. Thanks.I've been doing it the hard way. I'll load a different aircraft, then reload the one that I've been working on. I can do it fairly fast, but it's no match for your method.Cheers,JerryH

Jerry, I haven't tried to add it to the VC yet. I guess I was afraid the VC is such a different animal than the Cockpit view that I was thinking it won't work. I'll try adding it. thanks!Dave

Paul, hey, that's a great tip! Thanks so much. I'll make a key assignment, as I do lots of trial and error mods of the cfg's since I don't know which values will place an instrument EXACTLY where I want it or at what size I want it to appear.Dave
