March 21, 201412 yr Some screenies from the continuation of my four corners' project. Still haven't scheduled a time to upload it, since there's 50 GB of data so far to get into the library which would be approx 100 files. I will add the scenery state by state. Of course, Colorado is already there as some members have discovered. I am going to expand the scenery to the west coast before heading North--I hope to get the U.S. west of the Miss. river done by summer. These shots are out of Reno, Nevada headed over basin and range country into the Bonneville Salt Flats, in no specific order. Enjoy! JC
March 21, 201412 yr Been watching these with interest - what sort of resolution are you doing it at? Are you doing the coastlines? And are you going to venture into Europe at all?

I will do the coastlines next. The res. is 2m--not quite as sharp as I'd like but it saves hd space and at altitude it looks nice--well I hope you see it that way anyway. Funny you ask about Europe, I am currently doing Bavaria, a favorite place of mine due to the pretty countryside there. I should have some screenshots up there tomorrow or so... JC

JC Is there a way to create higher resolution scenery? I understand the HD space issue, but wondering if the source imagery would allow that. Also, I might be interested in doing some of this and am curious if this something that is relatively easy to do. REX AccuSeason Developer REX Simulations

Yes, Nothing prevents one from going higher--I could have gone at least one notch higher but the generation time quadruples every time one goes higher since essentially it's the square of the previous resolution. An area such as the size I've covered would absorb about 200 gb of space unless I went lower on the compression level. The res. is only limited by the source used and the more common sources allow for higher resolution. John

JC You're absolutely right - 2m is just fine for high altitude IFR. In fact I have a product from a little known French developer called Scenerybox - they do a 'Business Class' product which is the whole of France @2m. It looks great for IFR and is about 10GB, rather than 150GB+ if the free Spanish photoscenery is anything to go by.
