Sketchup, SU2XPlane and lights

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any luck using the XPlane exporter in Sketchup to create a light effect?

It's my understanding that this is the way you do it, but it doesn't seem to work for me.

It's amazing how easy it is to create scenery and to put it inside X Plane, but some night lights at my airport would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

Looks right, but you may not have that text perfectly aligned.  Your best bet is to use the ruler tool to get a "point" for the text leader to attach too.  If that's too tough, you can draw a little line down and snap to that.  Also try "LIGHT_NAMED white_street_light"  This is a fairly non directional dependent light, that looks good from all angles.  You can see what they look like below.  All of which was made in sketch-up and exported via sketchup to xplane. (This is my current project KPVD)

That did it... works great!! Thanks for ti, czoog.

It amazes me how easy it is to create and place scenery in Xplane using Sketchup and the Overlay Editor. Even witht he 1-texture limit, Xplane seems pretty tolerant of scenery complexity and detail.

Glad it worked for you! Good luck!
