Looking for an updated twin- different than what I have

Featured Replies

While not the same as the others  the Carenado Cessna 337 Skymaster is a twin too and IMO is one of the most overlooked and underrated GA cruisers available.  It has a very nice FDE, full IFR capabilities, great model and VC graphics, easy on framerates too.  Can cruise about 160-165knts which isn't blistering but isn't slow. It also has a nice high wing for sight seeing in VFR conditions and can still get into all those short strips in ORBX PNW.  I fly mine in that region all the time for the reasons mentioned.

I fully agree.  I will say the push-pull 337 flies more like a single, but since the OP came back and mentioned Orbx PNW the 337 is a great recommendation.  It allows sweeping panoramic views from the cockpit.  This screenshot from the 337 is taken over MSE2 scenery, but the view from the cockpit is represented pretty well.  This one over Crater Lake in Oregon.  Last Fall I competed a sequence of cross country flights to enjoy MSE2 Calif, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho and used the C337 exclusively for just that reason.  Well, that and a very reasonable cruise speed.

It looks like your moving in the direction of the F1 B200 which is a great choice but before you pull the trigger let me throw out a sleeper not mentioned above...

Not ready to pull the trigger yet on the F1 B200. I'll check out the C337 before I do anything else. As mention in my original post, looking for a departure, something different from Comanche. The C337 certainly fits that description. For low and slow site seeing around the PNW, I use the Lionheart Pacer. But I like off beat A/C as well so the C337 looks interesting.  Much appreciated. Also, can someone who has the KA comment on performance compared with other GA aircraft.

Here is another shot from the cockpit of the 337.  This one taken during a visual approach to Troutdale, Oregon.  Show  the view more out the front.  Cannot find a screenshot out either side window, but in my opinion the 337 offers an even more open view out the side that most other high wing aircraft.  It's why as a model O2 it was used as an observation aircraft by the Army and Air Force.

KA is a bit heavier, out of the box, but you can disable the copilot display and gauge reflections and such to lower that impact. I don't notice it, I don't really have to turn down scenery to get it to work properly.

Another "sleeper" is the Milviz C310 which looks very dated but is on sale today only: http://secure.simmarket.com/milviz-c310r.phtml

A bit old but she really REALLY feels so great to hand fly. She feels a bit wobbly just like the real 310.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. It's very helpful. For those who have the F1 B200,with the glass cockpit and complexity,  are you noticing any kind of performance drop compared with your other GA AC? I'll be flying primarily in ORBYX PNW.

747-fan makes a relevant point in the post above.  BrianG has not mentioned his system specs and that should factor into recommendations.  You can review my system specs via the sidebar here.  I only have frame rate issues when I fly into or out of a high res addon airport in an area where I also have high res city or area scenery.  Like Aerosoft USCitiesX Chicago and FS Dream Team's O'Hare -or- Aerosofts Manhattan X and Blueprint's KJFK.  And if I recall correctly the C337 seems vulnerable in those areas.  However I must also say that is what I usually fly inn those areas to take in the scenery detail.  I don't recall flying the B55 in those areas, and my C90 trips into Chicago X have been into Midway (Rob Touchstone's KMDW v2) without issue.

Edit: I checked my log and I have flown into FSDT O'Hare in the B55, with Chicago X and do not recall any serious hit.

For something different and more complex with updated avionics, my choice would be the Wilco Piaggio P180 Avanti II. You also get a Ferrari with it to tool around the countryside with.

Good point. System is good but a bit dated.

As a benchmark- PMDG NGX at FSDT LAX , 50% AI, some weather, I get between 15-20 fps taxiing on the ground. Mid to high 20's airborne. I set my limit to 30.

With Orbyx PNW, crusing the Comanche, I'm right at my 30 fps limit. Any PNW airport with weather - mid 20's, with the exception of KSEA and KPDX. I take a drastic hit there if I don't back down on the sliders a bit.

Thanks again everyone for giving your 2 cents. Every bit helps.

Cheers-

Brian

Ok, i got it! Yesterday i purcahsed Flight1 B200 with refund policy in mind, but this plane is definitely a keeper. I like complex simulations, and just recently started with GA. I'd put this KA B200 on top, with RealAir B60. B60 has better performance, probably becouse B200 has more complex systems. I love good flight models like this, they(flight1)captured some amazing details about this plane. I recommend reading this excelent, PMDG-like tutorial to get a idea about this simulation:  http://library.flight1.net/?p=4984

So, now i have 2 great GA twins - RA B60 and Flight1 B200.

I am realy new to GA, is there any other GA aircraft in same class with this two? I have A2A C172.

I will probably get Milviz Baron. It looks great, and becouse of RXP integration. Can anyone tell me about flight dynamics? I don't own any Milviz product so far). Also, i'd like to get turbine Duke, but i think i'll wait a litlle more to see if there will be V2...

I just bought the Milvis Baron 55. I'm new to GA myself. I must say the FDE is really good as is everything else. Maybe not quite as detailed as the Duke 60 V2, but none the less, an excellent model. This is one that I fly by hand. It's too much fun to turn the AP on.  Take-off is different that anything I've every felt in FSX. I've never flown a Baron in RL but a couple RL Baron 55 pilots mentioned (in this thread ) it feel much like the real thing. I'd say go for the Milvis $25 download and save yourself $5 from the F1 purchase. You'll want to keep this one.

Thanks Brian, i will get this one for sure. Just added to my "this month buying list", with FS2Crew for Majestic Q400. Some realy good times for FSX ^_^

Hmm, so much good stuff talked about in this thread.  Although I've been trying to stay on one type at a time these days (I've been flying the Milviz 737 lately, and since the FS2Crew release, the Q400 was supposed to get some love next!), reading this thread is making me want to pull the F1 KA200 or the Milviz B55 out of the hanger, dust them off, and go flying!

I actually prefer the B55 a bit more than the F1 KA200.  It just 'feels' so sweet, and it complements my favorite single (Carenado F33A) better. I also find that the KA200, although superb, has me worrying a bit more about system performance when flying in Orbx land.

I also really, really enjoy the C337... Really, it's hard to go wrong with any of the airplanes listed in this thread - they're all really good - choosing one over the other just comes down to personal preference!

Milviz Person.

One important question about Milviz B55 - from what i understand, there is a option to include Reality XP 430 and 530 waas. But, can i add 430 only? I will get 530 too, but not this month...
