Really surprising to see such a turn of events! He seemed very genuine so it's a shame that he isn't who he appears to be.

I agree Jetsflier. Many great helpful and more often than not supportful posts. Over 2,000 I believe. Much better than joining this thread with "LMAO" at an individuals error of judgment. I suspect that within the confusion, anger and perhaps frustration, the real Dave Romford stood out as a true supporter and encourager for many that enjoy this hobby. At least that's the way I would prefer to see things.

The Internet seems to bring out the worst of some people. It's really scary to see, how much effort and time some individuals put into being someone in the virtual world, that they cannot be in real life. This schizophrenic behaviour seems to be widely spread among the users of the worldwide web...

I'm still LMAO and now I'm LMAO at you too. With regard to his wonderful character what kind of jerkoff logs in as someone else and "likes" himself? No wonder he was so well "liked". And shouldn't the avatar been a tipoff that "he isn't who he appears to be"? I had him pegged two years ago frankly, now the facts are right in front of you. The "real Dave Romford" was "Dave Rogers" - and "Shomei Yokouchi" - and whoever else he may have been that we don't know about, there was nothing real about him. Error of judgement my a$$.

David has some talent for role playing, for sure:

He created two voicesets (free of charge) for the Aerosoft Airbus X, in which 'Captain David' would run through the checklists, with 'First Officer Dave' - two completely different British accents, pretty immersive stuff and quite fun to listen to!

If the Twiglet you're referring to as his other account is this guy: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/365541-help-me-spend-40-bucks-tonight/ his writing style looks totally different. I'd be hesistant to identify him as the same person. He's also talking about USD instead of GBP.

Q_Flyer always seemed a reasonable guy to me. Over 2000 posts and i'd not seen a single questionable one from him.

Remember Tom and the admins have far more information than we do at the moment - they can see what IP addresses we are all posting from, and if they see a pattern, and indeed can link the Paypal email used for a donation to an already banned member then that's pretty conclusive.

Peope aren't always what they seem online...

About twelve year ago there was a staff member on another website/forum I used to frequent who was very popular. To all intents and purposes he was a very nice guy, used to help people out a lot with PC hardware problems, giving advice, he was even known for giving away hardware (stuff like RAM, and even graphics cards) for free. To cut a long story short he was outed as lying about his military service. In his staff bio on the site he alluded to being a former US Navy SEAL and had even told people war stories about his time in special forces. Other staff members of the site who were former serving military took umbrage at this and from what I understand it caused a huge mess for the site and all the staff members (if I understand the story right the site owner was forced to dissociate himself from the site and hand over ownership to someone else). The guy who originally outed the faker claimed he received death threats over the affair.

Perhaps even worse was a couple of years ago on another large website/forum community centred around a certain series of PC strategy games...... there was a member there who was very active in assisting various groups produce community modifications and enhancements to these games. He was well known and well respected. One day out of the blue the news comes that this guy had passed away quite suddenly - the news came from another member purporting to be his brother. Shortly after it came to the attention of the site admins that this guy had been using the forum's PM system to befriend other members and solicit personal photographs of a sexual nature from them (some of them possibly underage) and was then posting those pics on porn sites. Then the allegations began that the "brother" was just an alt account and this guy was trying to fake his own death online to cover his tracks as one of his targets had threatened to publically out him. You can imagine the potential implications for both the site and the owner. All they ever said was all the information was passed on to the police in the relevant countries and nothing more was heard of it.

So, like I said... the Internet can be an extremely unpleasant place where people can be very different from their online persona.

Farewell, Dave/David Rogers/Romford, and thanks a lot for all your advice and humour ...

Did he have any other aliases Ollie :p0805:  I always liked reading Dave's posts...seemed like a pretty nice guy.  Well, there went 25% of my friends with him getting banned.  Ollie, Luke and William ya'll be on your best behavior now :P

what kind of jerkoff logs in as someone else and "likes" himself?

I think that could be his epitaph.

It certainly does put a damper on the "he was a swell guy" theory.

... which reminds me of my own almost forgotten promise ("Anyone who still remembers ...") to reveal my real name as soon as the PMDG B777 is out ... well, on 2nd thought, guess you'll all have to wait for that to happen until release of their SP1!!!   :LMAO:

Add to his other identities "STICK", which was his first UID opened in early 2011.

Looks like he became unstuck this time....

"Holy Cow" talk about a popcorn thread.

He recently sent me his TIR profile to try in a private message, initially thankful I now somehow feel a bit disturbed by it.
