Megascenery Earth Question

Recommended Posts

I have been running my older PC for years without upgrade. I noticed MegaScenery Earth was on sale and was thinking of picking up my State. Since receiving my PPL I thought it would be great for preflight FSX flights. My fear is that it will bring my system to a halt. Does anybody have opinions about this product? Does it create a FPS drag on your system

Mine Q9400

4 Gig Ram

1 Gig Video

My avg FPS with most A/C is 18-20 FPS.

thanks for opinion.

Pure photoscenery like MSE V2 can actually be a bit easier on frames depending on how you have things set, as there's no autogen.

What matters is your disk space. I picked up Oregon last week and it's 50GB installed. Yikes! Downloading and installing (which I had to do manually because I don't directly download anything to my FSX machine) was a bit of an ordeal. I hope your home state is Delaware.

You can use a program called ScenProc to insert OSM autogen though I don't think there is a lot of OSM data for the states, usually there's trees though. It's a free program. A google will find it.

Get an external solid state hard drive and you can put the whole country on it if you like.

Also check out the AVSIM Photoscenery Forum where topics like this are discussed.  Lots of discussions regarding MSE V2.  You definitely should check out that forum before purchasing (but if you're getting it at 50% off, I don't think there should be a question as to whether to buy it or not).  I own every State in the US except for Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine.  The most important thing to know if you purchase it is that you must disable the scenery if you plan on flying say, in Europe or away from your State as photoscenery loads even if you are not using it and takes up resources.
