Crash when coming out of simulation rate increase

Recommended Posts

FSX Gold Edition, Windows 8.1 64 bit

When I increase simulation rate to anything over 4 and then return to normal rate the screen then reloads and runs for a little while, but eventually it will crash with a statement that the program has quit working. The only option you have is hit ok and the program closes. If I run simulation rate 2 or 4 this doesn't happen. It has been a problem with my last computer and I now have a new Asus with a Invidia GeForce GT 640,

Intel Core i7-4770 CPU, 3.40 GHz, 16 GB Ram and it still happens. Tried reinstalling FSX with no success. Installed FSX on a drive other than my operating drive, still happens.

Any ideas ??

I have also never been able to record segments of a flight. Always crash during the recording.

You should run AppCrashView and post the details of the crash report here.  See the AVSIM CTD Guide located to the right of this forum under Hot Spots for details (page 1).  You most likely have too high settings or you put a tweak in your fsx.cfg that is not compatible.  The BufferPool tweak will do that.

I do have settings on ultra high and frame rate on about 75. I will run the program you mentioned and post the results.

Do you have ENB/SweetFX running? FSX always crashes for me when using acceleration and either one of those two tools.

I ran AppCrash. A lot of my crash's have this listed as the fault module name. uiautomationcore.dll.

For some reason I cant copy and paste the details into this post.

The faulting module is the uiautomationcore.dll, Windows 8.1 version.  Hopefully you did not delete or replace this system file.  It did load at module 131 but there should be another version.  The uiautomationcore.dll is part of the Microsoft.net package and is used for managing memory.  I do not see where you have it in your main FSX folder or at least it did not load.  Is it possible you only have the 64 bit version of Microsoft.net installed when the only versions you need are the 32 bit versions (x86).  In the Windows/Microsoft.net/Framework(x86) folder you should see versions 1.1, 2.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 installed.  According to the AVSIM CTD Guide, there was a problem with the Windows 8 version of uiautomationcore.dll but that should have been fixed by Microsoft by now.

I think you need to download and install the Vista version of the uiautomationcore.dll and place it in your fsx directory so it loads instead of the one for Windows 8. See this link for further info - http://forum.avsim.n...hing-win-7-x64 .

You do have Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 but with Windows 8 versions.  That's strange as you install FSX after you install Windows so shouldn't the versions be the one's that came with FSX/Acceleration?

Jim, I do appreciate your help,

I will answer some of the questions you asked. Since I am not as computer literate as you are, I may have problems with a couple of your questions.

  • I have not deleted or changed the uiautomationcore.dll file.
  • As far as versions, like I said this is a new computer and the operating software was already pre-installed.
  • Should the uiautomationcore file be in the main FSX folder? I do not see it there.
  • Sorry James, but I'm not sure what you mean concerning the 64/32 bit versions of Microsoft.net. Since my windows version is 64 bit , I would have thought the Microsoft.net version would be 64 bit also.
  • In the Framework folder I have all those versions you listed except 4.5. I do not see it.
  • I don't know if this matters concerning your last statement about the C++ but I installed FSX on C drive when I first got the computer. I then read where it is best to install on a different drive other than the system operating drive. So I uninstalled FSX from C drive and re-installed it on partioned section of the same drive.
  • I will download the vista version of the uiautomationcore.dll. You said to install it in the main FSX folder, correct?

Update: I downloaded the vista version of the uiautomationcore.dll and installed it in the FSX folder. Ran the simulation rate up to 16X for about 5 minutes and then switched to normal. Continued running good. I will need to try it a few more times to be sure.

Still wondering: Is the uiautomationcore.dll file supposed to be in the FSX folder when the program is installed?

Thanks

Rick

Still wondering: Is the uiautomationcore.dll file supposed to be in the FSX folder when the program is installed?

No, this is not installed when you install FSX/Acceleration.  For those running Windows 7 or higher, someone discovered that putting the Vista version in the main FSX folder fixed FSX if FSX froze up on you and you had to restart FSX.  It is my understanding that one had to right click the FSX menu area 20 or more times for FSX to freeze up and crash.  I have not been able to replicate this freeze and have never let the uiautomationcore.dll in my main FSX folder.  If you look at many of the crash reports here in this forum, you will see that many had the Vista version of the uiautomationcore.dll in their main fsx folder (as shown in their crash report).  So, the module did not work for them.  I just think you should try it and see if it fixes your problem.  If not, then you should remove it.

It appears your Microsoft.net versions are properly installed (make sure they are in the Framework (x86) folder as this is the folder for the 32 bit versions.  Framework (x64) is for the 64 bit versions (if you have any installed).

Since FSX is a 32 bit program operating in a 64 bit OS, it needs the 32 bit versions of dotnet and the Microsoft Visuals.  A lot of people get very confused with whether the 32 bit or 64 bit version should be installed.  You have to go by the version of the application.  Again, these programs are installed automatically by Microsoft when you install FSX/Acceleration except that Microsoft Visual 2005 was suppose to be upgraded to SP1 when Acceleration was released so it is recommended you download and install the 2005 w/SP1 version.  My problem with Windows 8 is that it installs a Windows 8 version of the Microsoft Visual 2005 and FSX may have a problem running as it is looking for the 2005 w/SP1 version.

FSX does not run very well with a faster simulation rate of 4X's.  Anything above that and fsx crashes is not the fault of your computer or installation.  It is a bug in the FSX program.

I'm worried that your are cranking your FSX settings to the max.  The higher the settings, the faster depletion of Virtual Address Space (VAS).  Every computer system only gets 4GB's and the 4GB's has to be shared with other Windows applications running in the background on your computer.  If your settings are high, you will start having fsx issues after maybe an hour of flight time.  With the release of high powered computer systems, many think they can crank their systems up to the max and they can but for short flights only.

Hope this helps.

The Microsoft.net versions are in the framework (86) folder.

I ran simulation rate of 16X earlier today and it did good when I came out of it back to normal. No crash yet since I added the uiautomationcore.dll.

Have not tried recording a segment of flight yet, that has been a problem. Never could record without FSX crashing. I'll try that tonight.

Where is the Microsoft visual file located? and if I download 2005 with sp1, do you just install it over the other one?

You can check to see what Visuals are installed by looking in the Add/Remove Programs.  See Page 5 of the AVSIM CTD Guide for required versions and the list.  Where they are installed on your computer is beyond my pay grade.  I would be shocked if you do not have the 2005 w/sp1 installed but, yes, you can just install over the other one or you can uninstall it and then reinstall it after downloading from the Internet.

Jim, I downloaded Microsoft visual 2005 sp1 and installed. It seems to be running much better. I did lower my frame rates to 55 fpm, but I still have everything else at ultra high and everything seems good.

I have only one more question and I am through, I promise. On the filtering setting in FSX, what is preferred? Anisotropic, Trilinear, or Bilinear.

I believe we are done, or at least I am. You move on to greater things. I appreciate your help.

Anisotropic.  You might want to follow the guidance in the AVSIM FSX Configuration guide.  We have settings for the fsx.cfg and NVidia Inspector (or your display driver settings if you do not want to use NI).  The guide is located to the right of this forum under Hot Spots.

Glad your computer is back up and running.  I'm starting to think Windows 8.1 is messing up your FSX. installation by updated the Microsoft Visual C++2005 w/SP1.  FSX may not like that fact.  It is also updating MSV 2008 and 2010.  You are the second person who had success after reinstalling MSV 2005 w/SP1.
