Well, I have reverse thrust mapped to my F2 key...upon landing I press F2 once, by habit I wait a sec or two, then I hold F2 down for a few secs and that gets me full reverse.

I have watched this with an outside view upon landing and it seems to work as expected for me.

That being said, I'm now reinstalling my FSX again into a new folder FSX3 since it stopped working yesterday.

The issue is that the aircraft is not getting to idle quick enough when disconnecting A/T or even when flying manually.

I just did a test flight I landed at 138knots auto throttle disconnected at 50ft aircraft landed nose down rolling out took a few seconds to get engines to idle then the reverse theirs kicked in

But as I said I have already reached 60 knots

Shouldn't the engines have idled in as soon as nose wheel hits ground and engines reverse thrust kick in?

>Shouldn't the engines have idled in as soon as nose wheel hits ground and engines reverse thrust kick in?

I'm not sure how PMDG modeled this but getting into reverse thrust isn't an engine thrust issue, its where the throttles are physically positioned in a real aircraft. What I mean by this is that you absolutely will not be able to bring the reverser levels up unless and until the throttles are all the way back at their idle position.

I've never tried it, but you should not be able to get into reverse idle in the sim (PMDG) if the throttles are forward beyond the idle position. I say this because if the throttles are at idle, you should be able to pull up and start getting into reverse thrust....so yes, this should be happening by the time your nose wheel touches the runway.

I was thinking that maybe the issue you are having is that you are getting into reverse idle and not full reverse so in effect, you're landing and using only reverse idle? Do what I did, land with an outside view and do what you do to get reverse thrust going and watch to see if your reverser doors are sliding aft (obviously they should be)...your nose wheel may still be in the air or just touching down as your cowl slides aft.

If this is happening then now all you have to do is kick in more reverse thrust and this I'm thinking you may not be doing? You will need to press your reverse thrust key again and hold it down for a few secs to throttle up the thrust to get into full reverse.

They should... and they typically would.... but if you have FSUIPC manage your axes, it will mess with this.

Just a minor point: you might be able to do that in our sim (apply just before touchdown) to get it work more realistically, but on the real aircraft the reverser's are usually tied into the main gear air/ground sensor switch...which means, the reverser's won't actually work until the plane gets an on-ground signal....

In a 737NG, the opening signal is tied to <10ft RAlt signal.

Some jetliners are designed with in-flight reverse in mind. Perhaps most famously the old Diesel Eight (i.e. DC-8) which sometimes used partial reverse thrust in lieu of airbrakes, and Soviet liners Il-62 and Tu-154, which were routinely flown with reversers out seconds before touchdown.

Thanks for the Info guys.

I do not use fsupic

Well I have the non registered version which does not manage my axes.

I was just watching a few youtube videos of a 737800 landing and as soon as rear landing hear hits the runway spoilers deploy reverse thrusters are engaged

This is really starting to bug me.

What key are your reverse thrust handles mapped to?

What is your key technique upon touchdown to operate reverse thrust? (when do you press the key, how many times and when each time?).

I use the saitek throttle quadrant my reverse thrusters are mapped when both are pulled back right down which I think is mapped to button 21 and 22 in fsx settings control axes calibrate decrease throttle 1 and decrease throttle 2.

As I said it works flawlessly with other aircraft.

Ahhh I see...I don't have that kind of setup so I have to use keys for my reverse thrust...yeah, something is puzzling with your setup...at this point you might want to try re-programming your throttles again...

My just do that, I that does not work I think pmdg needs to come up with another service update as many others have the Same issue

Mike

Unfortunatly it has nothing to do with PMDG. It's all about callibration.

I use a CH joystick with 1 trottle and having the same problem. Sometimes it kicks in, most of the time it doesn't. I bought FSUIPC and in the earlier years you just could calibrate and all fine. Today you have to be a programmer to use it. For me a waste of money.

It takes away a lot of the fun not being able to use reverse. You have to use excessive braking which is not realistic in most cases.

But then again, I use my joystick, other have an other brand and OS and so on and  so on. I'm afraid that this never will be solved. The day for me is coming rather sooner then later to quit. Started with FS4 or even before that...

Have fun,

John

Hi,

This is how I have my throttles and reversers set up.  The throttles are only set in the Axis part of FSUIPC I do not set the Calibration (if you do set the calibration then they won't work properly)

Here is how you set up your Saitek throttles for Reverse Thrust so that it works upon landing.

In FSUIPC select Button + Switches

Select Profile Specific

Select Throttle 1 lever and pull through detent (this is actually a switch) - you should see the Joy# and Btn# change.

In the 'Control sent when button pressed' go down the menu to Throttle 1 Decr

In the Parameter box enter 0

Check the box 'Control to repeat while held'

In the 'Control sent when button released' go down the menu to Throttle 1 Cut

In the Parameter box enter 0

Repeat for Throttle 2

Now your reverse thrust will work as soon as you land and pull the levers back through the detent on the TQ

I don't have the registered fsupic

The thrusters are working perfectly fine

Aircraft engines just not idle quick enough to deploy them.

Correct me if I am wrong ?

Thx Rob! I'm gonna try it!

1 question though. Do you have 2 trottles on your joystick?

Would be nice if it also would work on the CH product.

Thx,

John
