Is Anyone using FSGlobal Utimate for the Americas?

Recommended Posts

If so, I have a couple of questions.  I've given up on FSGenesis for Mesh.  So I'm looking to go the FSGLobal direction.

1)  How does the high resolution mesh affect the load times?  I have a large SSD.

2)  If I purchased the N/S America mesh in "Ultimate," and I eventually added the FS Global 2010, do they work together? ... yielding the higher resolutions Stateside while offering the lower res. (on average) FS Global 2010 mesh for the rest of the world?

3) if you have owned both Ultimate and FS Global 21010 ... how do your compare the appearance in areas where Ultimate is installed.

4)  Are all of the airports uncorrected for terrain elevation deviations ... or are some of the larger ones correct?

5) And finally ... these are huge installs from 20 to 40 gigs! Must they be installed on the FSX drive?  Would it slow the show down too much if they are on another drive, if possible.  I really don't know about this at all ... maybe the mesh always installs in the FSX folder.

P.S. They are making an edition of FS Global 2010 that supposedly is compatible with FTX products.  Are there really any difference

Thanks for any thoughts, info, or advice.

Steve

1. I have noticed no difference for load times with the mesh. Considering I have a medium end system for FSX

2. FS Global 'Murica is more hihgly detailed mesh. They would not merge well as it will be blending less detailed data with high detailed data. I recommend you buy one or the other. Personally I chose the regions I mostly fly in

3. I did not own Global 2010 but I have read, like I mentioned for question 2, the ultimate series are of high detail they say. But only secluded to a certain region. I recommend Global 2010 if you are flying outside North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. If you fly a lot in these places I recommend Ultimate.

4. Some airports have elevation problems but they offer a tool that can fix it pretty easily. FS Global fixes the incorrect elevations FSX has but doing so causes problems around as only the airport is fixed. If you have FTX Vector. It gives you a tool to scan for airports that have problems and will fix the elevation for you.

5. The files install into your FSX scenery folder as you say. Around 40-50 gigs for the Ultimate. A bit less for 2010 Global. Mesh always goes into your FSX scenery folder. Finally, there is a tool that changes your FSX scenery CFG for Ultimate provided by Pilot. If you do not run it. You will not see any differences. I had Ultimate for months without realsiing no differences until I enabled the tool. If you want to find out, run the tool and deselect the scenery and go to MGGT, La Auaro Guatemala, a very terrain filled place. Look around and see how flat it is. Turn on the mesh and there is a huge difference.

2. Wrong. You can very well use FS Global Ultimate the Americas together with FS Global 2010 for the rest of the world. Just disable FS Global 2010 North America, FS Global 2010 South America and FS Global 2010 Antarctica in your scenery library.

5. Wrong. FS Global 2010 and FS Global Ultimate does not install into FSX scenery folder. You can choose any drive and folder you wish.

And scenery load times definately does increase. It has to load everything added to your scenery cfg. I usually get a pause at about 6% for 5-10 seconds with mesh on my SSD. This gets worse as more and more scenery is added.  Some advocate activating scenery for specific regions as you fly them, but I can't be bothered by that myself.

The free products do the same as the pay products. Yes, I bought this product. I can go get freeware files that do the exact same thing.

Call it buyer's remorse!

Are you referring to OSM?  I ask because I have looked into it and seems to be an xplane thing.

OSM is about vector data which means it has nothing to do with mesh. FTX Global Vector uses OSM as its main source so it's no longer an X-Plane thing.

Absolutely correct, I've used FSGlobal meshes going back to 2008 and with the Ultimates it takes over 2+ minutes before the loading bar moves beyond the 6% mark (set at 5 meters), and I use a 1TB SSD. Subsequent reloads during an FSX session go a little faster.

Have you heard of Google? "Mesh" + "FSX" + "free"

Here's South America;

http://www.terra-brasilis.org/fsx-mesh-south-america/113-fsx-mesh-south-america-project

At Flightsim or SimViation is mesh for NorthAmerica, all for free. Download speeds aren't anything special. But then again, reading how great a product is suppose to be and then checking to see that it is no better than free stuff isn't really special either!

76m mesh is almost the same as FSX default mesh.

Well, if you are happy with 76m mesh, and don't see any difference with high resolution mesh, as discussed here, good for you and save your money.

Anyway, your simulator must be configured to show the high resolution mesh, all outlined in the manuals.

It's too bad people post without knowing, but rather go by what they think. Default for 99% of South America is at 306m, so yes, the 76m is much better. Since we talk about a payware product what does it offer for So. America??? That's right, 76m. Made from the same material the free mesh was made from. Durhhh...

Most North America can be found at 10m for US and 19m for Canada, pay or free. I guess smart people pay for the same as free just so they can be smart? That's the great thing about choices! I like free whenever it is available and of equal or better quality.
