Dodgy Maintenance

Recommended Posts

So, like most of you I love the service based failures, it gives each aircraft it's own individual character in our virtual fleet, just like the real world (some tail numbers are way more troublesome than others)

I have no real understanding of the true logic behind these failures except PMDG coded the likeliness of a failure based on real world data.

My question is this - I constantly get bleed valve failures.  I had 15mins to pushback from SBKP - SEQM, once again my APU bleed valve is stuck shut & the PRSOV R is stuck open.

Valve issues crop up a lot in all my fleet, but A6-EFG keeps getting these particular failures even after repairs.  Does PMDG replicate poor maintenance?  If it's fixed I would expect it the last a bit longer then a few flights.  Last 7 flights, apu valve has failed 4 times.

Service based failures are at the normal rate.  I always shut off the APU within 20mins of arrival and only start it again shortly before P/B

Last question :) anyone notice in descent you sometimes get a temporary STATUS msg regarding the PACKS?

Cheers

I used to keep a list in my pocket of tail numbers that had higher incidences of APU failures so I could call the ever-elusive huffer over early.  I won't name the operator, but I will say that it was named after a particular land form...

Is it Alaskan?

Land form - as in "hill," or "mountain."

An estuarine land form perchance?

Delta!!

Nope.  It's something you might see out in Arizona or Utah.  In fact, it's the name of a city out there.

Some maintennance facilities are better than others. Whether it's beause of better trained personell, better supervisors, just generally an overall better facility, whatever. Then again, you have some planes that seem to love to fly, some that are indifferent, and then there's the famous "Hangar Queen's". A lot of military squadrons wind up with one bir sits in the hangar and gets cannibalized for parts that take a while to get from Supply. This keeps the other birds flying more, and keeps THAT bird from causing problems with aborted flights, In-Flight emergencies, and so on.Most commercial operations don't have the planes to do that, but there is still always that one solitary bird that just doesn't want to go flying, and is down for maintennance more than it's up...

IIRC: Yep. Even with failures disabled.

Good to know it's not just me, but an actual bug.  I get this and other warnings intermittently when I taxing to the runway.
