X in front of FMS TGT ALT (Q400)

Recommended Posts

In the FPL of the FMS I input the required ALT at each ISEC.

The I go to VANAV and there is an X in front of each ALT instead of a down arrow.

I am sure that I am missing a step...Thanks in advance for your help!

I think X means cross at that altitude. So you should descend down to that altitude by that waypoint, so that you cross the waypoint at that altitude. Down arrow mean below that altitude. This is what I undersatand fom what I've read, but I'm by no means an expert.

An up arrow indicates an altitude restriction meaning you must cross that intrsection above the indicated altitude.  Down arrow is the opposite. The X tells the VNAV that you want to cross the intersection at that altitute, with a prefered decent rate of 1800 ft/min.  It will then calculate the TOD point.  I think.
