Some ore OSM shots (big images)

Recommended Posts

Hey what Gamma settings are you using ?

And if you could also post your system config

Gamma setting is default.

I have an Intel i5-2500 with 16 gig of ram and an AMD Radeon 7870. With the settings that where used for these screenshots I get a single digit slideshow. But reducing global shadows and world distance detail helps a lot and still looks very good.

Nice pics!!!

Which country is it ?

Its the area around Stuttgart / Germany that obviously has pretty decent OSM coverage.

I will like to have FSX with the same scenery, if realistic

Last time I checked, Europe was so far ahead of the US it wasn't funny.  The US has barely any 'open' street maps data that's worth a flip.

So, it's time to start contributing to OpenStreetMap. In 2009, my village (in France) was only one name and a road. One year later, everything I knew was added, including all the streets, trees, and buildings. Every simmer should feel responsible for his local area in OpenStreetMap.

With FSX you would be limited to photoscenery or one which contain paid sceneries. This is based on Openstreetmap using World2Xplane which converts the data to be used for X plane.

+1. I know I've said this before, but it takes very little effort, and you get big results.

My home area was completely empty about 2 years ago also. I mean there were roads of course, but not much else and it looked rubbish in X-Plane. So, instead of sitting around waiting, I started doing it myself. 10-15 minutes a day whilst having a coffee, I added buildings, corrected roads, added forests. A few months later, the area looks incredible and is instantly recognizable. I can even fly around and say "That was my high school","There's my first girlfriend's house" - Nostalgia in a flight sim ha ha

I'm still at it of course, editing more with the new features I add into World2XPlane. I'm now adding farmland which is what adds hedges and trees around fields. Again, a few mins a day, and it makes such a "huge" difference. Also, I can see my editing efforts have spawned off and others around are joining in. The surrounding areas are now getting better as well.

Problem with FSX is that annoying memory limit (Same in X-Plane with 32-bit). The payware FranceVFR scenery is similar to World2XPlane scenery in terms of density, but the second you go into a dense area, boom, crash to desktop. The Alsace area, although stunning, was a waste of 45 euros when I bought it, because I can't fly long without it crashing out with an OOM area.

I also have P3D v2 and the SDK, and will experiment, but the same problem still exists (In fact it's worse in P3D v2). The developers though seem pretty responsive and active. It's of course possible to do, and I'd love to do it, but not until a time that they switch to 64-bit.

Nope, X-Plane 10, the sim that many (including an Orbx developer) said was a dead end.

 Yes I remember John Venema's quote: "X-Plane has no future."

Fact: the page were the interview has been published had no future: it's a http "404 Not found" error today.

Absolutely amazing, I've never seen forests (and towns) looking so real in ANY sim!

Yup - I am using the experimental dense forests from alpilotx and the effect can be quite impressive. Here are a few screenshots I posted some time ago:
