FSDT COUATL grief

Recommended Posts

I have 4 FSDT airports that now comprise of $120 worth of jetways only, no buildings.

Couatl it seems is under attack by another program or my Anti virus . I have posted over at FSDT forums but I'm told the problem is my end , not theirs. I do find it ridiculous that I should lose ALL of my airports because of one weak link and it is weak you only need to google "couatl problems" to see many others in the same predicament

Anyhow, I was told to disable my anti virus and if I have no luck I should disable all of my processes one by one on the task manager while testing FSX to find the offending program . I did that very long and time consuming task and still Couatl and GSX vanish from the add on manager after a few seconds.

As a last resort I thought I would ask here for any clues as to what to do next. I tried back up restore but its obviously something outside of FSX.

Any thoughts anyone?

Did you exclude those files from your Anitvirus scan. I know that seems obvious but just wondering. I have issues where the main buildings are gone or dont load but my GSX still works and when I reset GSX, then everything comes back at my FSDT or FB airports. Never lost the addon menu listing for the programs. Feel for ya though. Lots of money spent like me for most of the FSDT and FB airports.

Yeah I excluded all FSDT and FSX from my AV scanner. Windows AV is switched off and anything that may have been AV related would have been disabled when I shut down all processes bar the few needed not to crash windows.

I have spent a solid 4 days working on this..ugghh

Sorry for going off-topic:

This is a friendly reminder that AVSIM's image policy has changed. For more details read this announcement: http://forum.avsim.n...ignature-rules/, or click on the Forums tab on the top of this page to read the new rules.

Hence I ask you to remove your system specs from the signature and put them in the provided tab of your profile.

Back on topic: Could it be that an older version of the Addon Manager has been installed? I have had my buildings vanished after installing an addon that installed an outdated version of that program over the existing one. Instaling the current version of the standalone program has solved the issue for me.

Kind regrads,

yes I have installed and re installed everything from the website including add on manager.

Because Couatl is showing up in the add on manager in Fsx and then Vanishes before my eyes, does point to it being hi jacked by another program but Ive run out of programs to disable

Shutting down AV is not an option these days. I have fought with these addons myself, but now I have been in terms with them for a while. I suggest you check if there is possible couatl announcements by running fsx in windowed mode.

Secondly try to reinstall by opening the installer with right click of your mouse and check the possible crosses for "run as administrator" or press an "allow" tab. Even then run them via right click and administrator option.

Im in windowed most of the time and I already ran everything as admin after ticking properties.

The thing is I didnt install any new programs in the days leading up to Couatl crashing so its hard to pinpoint whats going on

I did read somewhere that windows "libraries need to be up to date"  but cant find that link and the relevance to Couatl

Apologize for going a little off topic but just wanted to pass on a friendly reminder that we have changed our signature policy again and we are kindly asking everyone to please put their system specs and flight sim information in their respective "My Profile". More details can be found at the following link - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/436632-new-signature-rules  or under the Forums tab above. Thanks for your cooperation.

It might be crashing...quietly.  Perhaps the Windows Event log might reveal something.

Its there and after further discussion with the Dev he seems to think I have a corrupt afcad thats forcing Couatl to quit loading but thats also proving to be a dead end.

Couatl it seems is under attack by another program or my Anti virus . I have posted over at FSDT forums but I'm told the problem is my end , not theirs.

You said this:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,10245.msg79977.html#msg79977

I ended up closing all of the background programs running in the task bar and re launched and got Couatl back again.

So, the problem is clearly external. We only need to find it.

I do find it ridiculous that I should lose ALL of my airports because of one weak link and it is weak you only need to google "couatl problems" to see many others in the same predicament

If you lose Simconnect, and googling "Simconnect problems" results in about 25.000 hits, you will lose ALL your 3rd party add-ons, not just ours...that's just to clarify that FSX has many weak links and things that can go wrong.

As a last resort I thought I would ask here for any clues as to what to do next. I tried back up restore but its obviously something outside of FSX.

You are making it sound as if we have exhausted all the support option on the only place that you have any chance to get proper support for it, which is the FSDT forum.

But that's not the case: AFTER your problem was flagged as "solved" on our forum (following your report that it started to work again after you closed all your background tasks), you have been followed AGAIN, in several other steps.

The last log files you sent seemed to indicate you might have a corrupted scenery somewhere. Again, this is based on your report, that the scenery cache cannot be regenerated completely, we can only proceed following your own reports.

I do find it ridiculous that I should lose ALL of my airports because of one weak link

No, you don't have to. For the precise reason that it would be wrong if you would lose many products depending on the module, since the scenery cache is needed ONLY by GSX, you can DISABLE GSX, at least while we try to figure out your problem.

To disable JUST GSX, edit the %APPDATA%\Couatladdons.ini file and under the [gsx] section, add this line:

disable = 1

This will hopefully fix your problem MOMENTARILY, while we try to find what is causing this problem in your system. If the problem is a corrupted AFCAD, only GSX needs them so, you'll lose GSX for the time being, but not your airports.

Now, please, don't follow up here. Regardless if the above suggestions works or not, please continue on the thread you opened on our forum.

By posting here, you are not increasing your chances to get your problem fixed, but are only doubling our support effort with the need to follow two different thread at once, and that time would better spent helping you directly.

@OP

I too had the same problem after numerous in-sim on-screen reminders to update Add-on Manager/Couatl. My KLAS was just like yours, just jetways, and showing installed and active in the Add-on Manager dropdown. So, re-installed KLAS, which then prompted a fresh Add-on Manager.Downloaded that and installed.Re-booted, re-started FSX, all working. Wish I knew how to attach images here.I'd show you.

I too had the same problem

The OP is having an entirely different problem, the Couatl module starts correctly but, it crashes after a while, when regenerating the scenery cache. The end result will look similar, but the problem is very different, nobody ever reported it before, which means there are entirely different methods to solve.

This doesn't have anything to do with updates, failed installs, etc. but, since in this case it SEEMS to be an issue related to GSX only, and since GSX can be disabled for troubleshooting in the way I explained (here and on our forum too), he'll hopefully gain his airports back, until we find out what is making crash the program in the scenery cache, which is likely a corrupted scenery file.

Again, I'll have to ask anyone to stop posting here, because this issue is very specific to this user setup, and we are following it on our forum, and we have several other options (including remote assistance and special debug version to try) we can try, which means the problem will be surely fixed, but this is not the place.

Sorry, saw a mention of jetways, so hence replied. Will stay out in future and leave it entirely to you to deal with.
