May 14, 201412 yr Author What do you have running in the background? Task manager, Processes? Sir - Usual windows processes and no other applications on the FSX machine and also NOD32 is made to run on the gamer mode... But why would other windows processes eat up the VAS of FSX... ? Installed Scenery Config editor and disabled some sceneries (from the default ones) and kept only ASIA and BASE folders and the mandatory ones for a flight i took within the middle east ... No change.. Wanted to show that screenshot, since Cai asked for it.. Dont know how to upload ... can anyone help please? Regards, Suvo A firm landing in the TDZ is a good one, a smooth landing outside the TDZ is bad. A smooth touchdown is NOT the criterion for a safe landing
May 14, 201412 yr Commercial Member Sir - Usual windows processes and no other applications on the FSX machine and also NOD32 is made to run on the gamer mode... But why would other windows processes eat up the VAS of FSX... ? I am wondering if you have a virus hogging system resources. Simply put you shouldn't be having an OOM running default scenery on a 2 hour flight. Probably the first person here to report an issue like this. Best to look at all avenues. Regards Rob Prest
May 14, 201412 yr Author Just had a look at my cfg. LOD_Radius is 6.5 Bandwidth multi =80 Texture Max load =4096 Rex direct textures - High altitude clouds 4096, low level 1024 DTX5 No OOMs here on ultra longhaul OMDB - KBOS, OMDB - KLAX. All using airport addon scenery & FTX global & Vector. Road traffic 10% scenery complex = Dense Autogen = Dense So, must be more to the ops setup. What background processes are running? Only thing I needed to do was remove the external aircraft textures and ensure my machine runs nothing except FSX. Everything else runs of my laptop networked. I have the same setup ... with 2 differences.. 1. All REX textures - 1024 2. Scenery - Complex and Autogen both to Very Dense Nothing runs on my FSX machine... other addons which i mentioned runs networked on my laptop Clueless - whats going on... I can go ahead and lower the LOD_RADIUS and also scenery slider, but if people get better results with more or less similar setting as mine, then either something weird is going on with my machine or I am missing something important, which is unlikely.. May 14, 201412 yr There is a slight differnce between you and FLEX1978. His PC is clocked @ 4.9GHZ and he is using a GTX Titan. Both these together might make his flightsim expereince quite a bit different from yours. In regards to your setup, Autogen seems a bit high. Most recommend normal or dense settings as these are VAS hogs. Your system looks more compatible with mine and I can tell you that everytime I turn my autogen up to anything past Dense, particularly when I'm using third party scenery (Non-photo) I might get an OOM error. Reducing Autogen to normal or dense appears to be the cure. Also, I am using Steves DX10 fixer and I beleive this makes a huge difference I'm able to fly non stop from anywhere in the world for hours without this problem so I'm pleased with my setup. Mine: [GRAPHICS]HIGHMEMFIX=1 TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048TEXTURE_QUALITY=3 FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.50 (I have seen no difference here between this and the default 0.33) [JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14 [TERRAIN]AUTOGEN_DENSITY=2DETAIL_TEXTURE=1LOD_RADIUS=4.500000MESH_COMPLEXITY=75MESH_RESOLUTION=22SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=2000TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1000TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=28WATER_EFFECTS=5 I was suprised that putting ASN on a network PC did not give you any better performance...that dissapoints me because I was considering doing the same. Troy By the way I should tell you that whenever I use FSX, I always set win7 theme to windows classic and adjust windows for best performance. The latter is done thru right clicking my computer/properties/advanced system settings/performance (settings). Hope this helps Troy Kemp Win 11 64 Pro on 1TB nvme + 500GB ssd / P3Dv5.3+ on 1TB nvme+ 250GB with P3D addons / MS2020 2TB nvme /I9 13900K@ 5.8ghz / 32GB DDR4 3600mhz / MSI MPG Z690 DDR4 with wifi / RTX 4090FE
May 14, 201412 yr Commercial Member Just a few things to note.. CPU speed has no relevance, ASN on a networked PC will definitely help. Lowering his settings will definitely help, but it will only mask his core issue. No way should he be having OOM's after 2 hours using default scenery. I am convinced something external is hogging memory on his machine. Maybe something is installed within FSX that he has neglected to mention. Regards Rob Prest

ASN on network PC is giving me a very good performance and i can really recommend you doing that. From performance perspective I am doing quite good.. constant 28-29.9 FPS and it is also locked at 30... Issue is VAS getting filled up very quickly.. I know scenery density loweing might help, but since i am not using any third party scenery which is supposed to be much high quality, i thought with default, i can keep this at Very Dense... Now even If my processor is overclocked and Graphics card is improved, that would increase the performance but how that will stop from VAS getting filled up so quickly... May 14, 201412 yr Thanks FLEX1978....I will definetly consider ASN on network. Troy Kemp Win 11 64 Pro on 1TB nvme + 500GB ssd / P3Dv5.3+ on 1TB nvme+ 250GB with P3D addons / MS2020 2TB nvme /I9 13900K@ 5.8ghz / 32GB DDR4 3600mhz / MSI MPG Z690 DDR4 with wifi / RTX 4090FE
May 14, 201412 yr Commercial Member Suvo, can you sign your name so this topic doesn't get deleted Ok, what livery's are using? did you download any from an external source? Only OOM I ever had was from goldstar textures. you can try this as a test. Go to the aircraft model folder, look in the model.cfg and modify it to look like this [models] //normal=PMDG_777_200LR.MDL interior=PMDG_777_VC Rob Prest
May 14, 201412 yr SUVO - is there anyway you can capture a screen shot of your task manager while running FSX and post it here? Topic name? how to edit... I have textures installed from PMDG Ops center and installed only the ones which i fly .. Air India, Emirates and FedEx.. Also why the scenery editor is not helping even after i have disabled many areas... wanted to attach a screenshot.. still searching how to do it... SUVO - is there anyway you can capture a screen shot of your task manager while running FSX and post it here? I can do that... but really stupid question, how to attach the screenshot ? Is there a tutorial somewhere? Regards, Suvo A firm landing in the TDZ is a good one, a smooth landing outside the TDZ is bad. A smooth touchdown is NOT the criterion for a safe landing
May 14, 201412 yr I can do that... but really stupid question, how to attach the screenshot ? Is there a tutorial somewhere? Um..I don't know. I think the suggestion is upload via someplace like photo bucket and share the link. May 14, 201412 yr really stupid question, how to attach the screenshot ? Is there a tutorial somewhere? Not a stupid question......just not possible at AVSIM :-( I have asked around as well, several times, to no avail :-( Rob Robson
May 14, 201412 yr Author OK Uploading it through flickr.... Just took a screenshot. Loaded the 777 onto fsx default OMDB airport at a gate. Panel state load - 777 Long. The process explorer shows a VAS of 2.3 GB and I have not even started the engine and did not go to outside view. :( Regards, Suvo A firm landing in the TDZ is a good one, a smooth landing outside the TDZ is bad.
