Getting New airports to show in "nearest airport" list

Featured Replies

I would like to know how to make any "new" airports I might create, show up on the "nearest airport" listing in ATC. Is there something that must be in the Afcad file - such as a particular Navaide - to make this happen?I don't have any trouble getting them to show on the "select an airport" list and ATC will call them - just need to know what I have to do to get them to show on the "nearest airport" lists. Thanks in advance for any help, advice and/or ideas.David "Opa" MarshallP.S. I see nothing in the Afcad help files that speaks directly to this issue.

I've created new airports with AFCAD which do appear in the GPS Nearest Airports list - one is only a grass runway with start locations at each end, but with no navaids. However, it does not show on the GPS plan unless the range is 15nm or less!

I finally figured it out and will reply to my own question in case anyone else has the same problem. The airport must have a "runway" and at least 1 "start" location. The runway can be "invisible" (just a few feet long and 1 foot wide). If these are present ATC will then offer to let you tune the "ground" and the airport will now show up in the "nearest airport" listing.I was working on this with a gentlemen who had created a "new" airport using FSSC and for some reason the resulting AF2 file showed nothing other than the reference point. Adding the above with AFCAD solver his problem.David "Opa" Marshall
